One of my most favorite songs ever, it gives off a sense of dread at the beginning. The only lyrics in this song is simply dreadful. The dark ambience gives off an oppressive feeling, the World has seemingly ended. As the poem is read, violins overtake the dark ambience into a hopeless situation. Guitars fade in, and you're left thinking about the poem that was read to you.
When it ends, trains are heard, along with tumbling guitars following the train on it's tracks. The train departs, and we're left with guitars tumbling and stuttering over each other, until we reach a high point. Hope. Beauty.
Bass kicks in, and we're left adventuring the endless roads after seeing our hope, our beauty. The guitars turn western, we're left exploring the desert, with a cowboy. It builds up into a crescendo of drums, guitars and bass, as if we are reaching the end of our journey. And just when you thought it ended, we're left on a beautiful end, of the biggest of hopes. Whatever maybe at the end of this road, it was worth it.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor is my favorite band of all-time, and F#A#∞ is one of the best albums ever made.
And the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
And a dark wind blows
And we're on so many drugs
With the radio on and the curtains drawn..."
