Catching a pigeon

May 7th 2025

Hmmm today was a pretty good day.

I was ready to write about another "stupid person" in my class but I need to remind myself that I should be kind. For the record, I myself am quite stupid and I have lots I areas where I'm lacking.

In class we were shown a video mapping the situation and timeline of the 2011 "Left to Die" boat, where NATO's (and other authorities) neglect left a boat of 72 Libyan refugees to perish. Despite MULTIPLE personnel and ships being within rescuing range. And authorities were well aware of its existence and location. It was really tragic, I'll link the video here later if I find it. But the video was apparently used in court to prove NATO's neglect and showed the route the passenger boat took, along with when passengers died, how many, and where on the journey.

And some chick asked if it was necessary to state when the people died instead of revealing the total number of deaths at the end... ??????? Brother, we are in a counter mapping class on the subject of humanizing migration maps.... The whole point is that we want to see these victims as people rather than numbers... That's actually the point of this unit.................

I didn't do a great job explaining the situation here, but trust, it had me looking around the room to see if anyone else was hearing this. This is the same class with the memorial website incident. aint no WAY we got this many challenged people bro ong...

But other than that, I tried batik and shibori dying YAAAYY!!! it was super fun, but I wish I left my stuff to dye for longer instead of washing them out. Their vibrant color unfortunately was lost. Maybe I'll try again another day.

I also went to feed the pigeons today. SOOOOO CUTE!!! I got them to land on my lap and my arms to eat out of my hand. It's really sad to see how many of them are missing toes though. One pigeon had some thread wrapped around its ankle and I was so scared it would one day amputate his foot. unfortunately It was too skittish and I had no chance of maybe catching it.

I did however catch a pigeon. Just for fun. It was a dirty looking one and pretty ferocious. It would fight the other pigeons trying to eat near him. it had its back turned towards me and was eating out of my hand, and I just grabbed it.

Pigeons are stronger than they look. It took two hands to hold it and it was still kind of escaping.

I've always wanted to pet a pigeon so I'm kinda fulfilled now. I was going to resort to dire measures and pull out the "box propped up with a stick" trap. Seriously. I have the stick and box ready in my room an everything.

I also discovered two bubble tea places super close to my uni. Not great for my weight or my wallet.... I drank two bubble teas one after the other. But in my defense, its been a while since I drank bbt.
