Is Kogal a substyle or an age range?

Today, I'm gonna be talking about the nonest non-issues in the gyaru community because I have no life and all my irl friends think I'm annoying! p.s. I had re-write ts because all my work just fucking disappeared.

Is Kogal a substyle or an age range?

In MY personal opinion, it's an age range. I think the term 'Kogal' has been thrown around too much and the term has lost its meaning, specifically when it comes to anime characters. Such a non-issue ikr? But not every anime character that has a short skirt, an oversized school jumper and some form of leg warmers or loose socks, is a Kogal- that's just what they primarily wear when they're AT SCHOOL. Yeah, I'm talking about Momo Ayase. It's never expressed in Dandadan that Momo is a gyaru (from what I know) and she wears other outfits OUTSIDE SCHOOL that don't even match ANY gyaru substyles, from my understanding. The same with one of Geto's adopted daughters, Nanako and Mina(?!) from mha, like wha-? I'm not sure if Im correct or not but I'm pretty sure the the 'Ko' in Kogal comes from the word "Kokosei" which in Japanese is "Highschool" because Kogals are primarily in Highschool, however, the "Ko" can also be interpreted as the Japanese word for "Child" so yes, Kogals are children. One of the main reasons I believe that it's NOT a substyle is because it was used to refer to Teens that dressed gyaru IN and OUT of school, so describing what Kogals wear in school as a substyle would be just inaccurate. Also, gyaru fashion was made FOR young women and Teens so why would we need a substyle about youth when all of Gyaru fashion is basically being confident, being wild and expressing your youth? (Though, even Grandmas in their nursing homes can dress gyaru lol). So NO Kogal is NOT a substyle.

"That's not Gyaru..."

I hate when people actually and GENUINELY say this when the person is obviously gyaru. These are the same people that think "Tropical" and "Clean" gyaru exist, and then when they show you a photo of what they mean, it's a gyaru in a swimsuit and a Himekaji. It's just extremely annoying to see a GORGEOUS gyaru, and just because she's tanning it's "Not gyaru". And speaking of tanning, I hate it when people say "Oh she's  literally doing black face" because someone has an overly dramaticly dark tan. Now as a certfied cotton picker (Black person), may I remind you that Black face is a RACIST MOCKERY of black people or just people of a darker complexion, and deeply tanning when dressing gyaru is meant to go AGAINST beauty standards and say "Hey, my skin may look like a fucking Ferero Rocher, but I'm still pretty" it's not trying to mock any race, trust. And on the topic of colouring skin, I also hate it when people say that Ishoku Hada is NOT gyaru. If you don't know, Ishoku hada is a gyaru substyle that involes painting your skin in a different colour and wearing really vibrant clothes, but it boils my blood when someone will hate just bc the person wants to dress Ishoku hada. Sigh... we'll never win, will we?

Anyway Im gonna stop here bc my battery is runnig out and I need to get ready for school tmr. Maybe I'll post the other non issues tmr? Idk, baiii >w<
