6-Day Road Trip - From Switzerland to the Netherlands

Day 1 - Luxembourg

I went on a pretty huge road trip with my family recently, which is why I've been kind of inactive on here. I barely had any access to internet the entire time and I've been pretty busy and exhausted since it happened. :P Here's a video of my trip up to the Leiden part!

The first day was definitely the hardest, getting out of Switzerland was near impossible. Thankfully, once we were out of the country, it was pretty smooth sailing until we got to our first destination, Luxembourg.

Luxembourg is actually scary to me, I've never seen so many fancy buildings in my life, even the roads there look fancy. At some point, we were looking for a normal, casual bakery to get a simple croissant from for breakfast, and everything that popped up on Google Maps was on the next level. It was surreal.

We went to a grocery store there and I discovered something I had never seen before.... cocktails in a tiny little bottle/can! I actually tried the Strawberry Margarita one and thought it was disgusting but I'm still glad we picked up a few of these, because they definitely aren't a thing here in Switzerland.

Day 2 - Belgium, Rotterdam

We left in the morning after getting that a couple of fancy croissants, it really didn't take a long time to get to Belgium. Of course, we had some fries as soon as we found some place along the highway selling some. They were really good!

We stopped off in Brussels for a little while, just to eat an actual meal. I had a truffle burger for the first time in my life, it was interesting. The fries at this other place were kind of horrid though, no salt at all and they tasted like they were cooked in old oil.

We left after eating and headed towards Rotterdam, the drive was interesting, since the highways in Belgium are so different to what I'm used to. I didn't know roads could make so much noise inside a car, lo.

Getting to Rotterdam was so exciting, the sky happened to be very pretty on that day and I had a bunch of fun just looking out my window and appreciating the view. It was pretty late when we got to our hotel, so we just decided to eat at the hotel's restaurant instead of going out to search for something more interesting. We had Italian food, and it was ok, nothing special, but at least it kept us full. I also had a full-on, non-bottled cocktail as my drink, it was nice!

Day 3 - Rotterdam, Leiden, Amsterdam

We went exploring the next day before leaving for Leiden, and woww, Rotterdam is really beautiful! Just staring at random buildings was fulfilling. We had some apple pie and coffee at this cool little café/bar, it was delicious!!

After a couple of hours of exploration, we headed to Leiden to go see the iconic 'Homunculus Loxodontus' sculpture! This was the main reason we even decided to go on this big road trip, I'm obsessed with this random sculpture in the Netherlands to the point where it's become a part of my daily life and conversations. It's probably my favorite art piece ever, it's just really comforting and cute. I took so many pictures with it and of it, it was so great to finally meet such an icon.

Our next destination was Amsterdam, which I thought would be way further than it really was. We got there fast, checked into our hotel, and then went to a Jamaican restaurant for dinner. :) The owner was so sweet, we ended up taking pictures with her and an employee there after finishing our meal. We even got a few free drinks to take back to our hotel room!

Amsterdam was amazing to explore at night, I wish I had stayed a bit longer. I actually ended up buying a cannabis muffin from this really cool "coffeeshop" that was themed after the sea. We went back to our room and unfortunately, I was super excited to try it, so I ate the entire thing. You will never be able to predict what happened next...

Day 4 - Amsterdam

I had a weird night. I ate the muffin at like 10:30 pm so the timing was obviously terrible, I just was in a rush cuz I didn't think I would have another chance to do anything like this during the trip. I was seeing things in my sleep, and when I finally woke up, I felt super dizzy and could barely walk to the bathroom, where I threw up first thing in the morning.

I spent the rest of the day in bed, sleeping 70% of the time, and watching TV whenever I was awake. I was so sad lol, I had essentially just wasted one entire day. I wanted to go out and party so hard, but at some point I had asked the time, thinking it was still the afternoon, and my mom told me it was already 7 pm........ ohhhh, the horrors!!!!! I thought I still had a chance at going out that day but when I found out how late it actually was and how tired I still felt at that time, I realized it just wasn't possible.

I'll have to go back some day, just to everything correctly. Hopefully with just some friends and not my family next time. I refuse to go my entire life without partying with twinks in Amsterdam.

Day 5 - Amsterdam, Cologne

Since we all stayed in for an entire day, we decided to go and explore Amsterdam a little before heading to Germany. I was doing better than before but I was still pretty out of it, I was in some kind of half-asleep state the entire day. It felt like a blur, but at least I took a few pictures to remind myself of what went on that day!

We went to a bunch of tourist merchandise stores in order to find a simple "I [Heart] Amsterdam" shirt, which obviously I had to get lol. :] I got a few other things, like a keychain and a fridge magnet, also some CBD gummies cuz why nottt?

We then left and headed to Germany, I was asleep most of the car ride. This night we were staying in some village that I only learned afterwards wasn't even that close to Cologne lol. We ate dinner at my parents' friend's house, except he literally only made chicken so I just had a ton of bread since I don't consume most animal products. It was kinda disappointing since he was going on and on about cooking us a big meal lol.

Day 6 - Cologne, Switzerland :)

I don't have much to say about this day since I was still half-asleep most of the time. We didn't actually go to Cologne at all really, which is a good thing because I was feeling exhausted. We ate breakfast at the same guy's place, and once again, I only had bread. Then, we headed back to Switzerland.

It was a lonngggggggg drive back home, and I was so happy to finally get home. We got back super late, like around 9-10 pm so I just went to sleep in my bed as soon as I could.

This was kind of an insane trip, we went to so many places in such a short time. I hope to do it all again someday, but with friends instead. And maybe by train too..... I hate being in a car for so long!
