This week's Logbook Radio choice: 'Paint It, Black' by the Rolling Stones (1966)

What a scorcher this week was! Here in the UK, the humidity has been getting super high and the temperatures keep rising little by little! It's cooling down moderately now, but I imagine it will only get hotter as the Summer goes on, and I'm all for it! Anyway, what have I been up to since I left you last week?

Well, I've been rehearsing a LOT. Monday started with an Iddiekronie session. The Iddiekronie are my uni band, I formed them and I intend to stay with the band as long as the concept remains fun to work on. We went over almost every song, but needed to wait till Tuesday for our full lineup to be present at rehearsals. Then the uni day started (weirdly, since we rehearsed in the morning, the rest of the day felt brand new and therefore VERY long!) Myself and my bandmates Lauren, Nick and Ellie then went to Broadway Cinema in Nottingham to watch a re-showing of 1988's 'They Live', a film by John Carpenter (the works of whom I am a massive fan). The others really enjoyed the film and now reference the lines regularly! I feel like a proud father instilling his pop culture knowledge unto his children - is that weird?

Tuesday has always been the long uni day, and it began with rehearsals - we went through every song for our show on May 13th (if you want to come see it, check the description of the vlog this week! Also, watch the intro for more information about upcoming gigs, including this one!) and wrote some lines to recite between each number on the set. We burned away yet another three hour gap between rehearsals and classes and were able to concentrate on quite a lot of content during our final class, songwriting. I have now finished the "radio edit" for my song 'The American Dream' which I am putting forward with 'Plane From Dallas' as official submissions for my next major assignment.

On Wednesday I designed a new logo for the Iddiekronie! We invented a mascot, and I drew it! It's a pug called Victor, whose head-only bust wears a top hat, monocle and a bow-tie. He sits right next to the Iddiekronie text on all major backdrops and documents, and now represents the band as a 1:1 profile icon on Instagram, YouTube, Linktree and even as the icon for our group chat on WhatsApp! We're hoping that Victor - whose fictitious newspaper line "It's ruff stuff!" is placed in a speech bubble beside him - will appear on more local gig posters in the coming years at university! We shall just have to wait and see! Wednesday was also the day of a very rare 5-man Celestine rehearsal. We're still a little iffy on certain areas of the set, so we're hoping to rectify any errors sooner rather than later - the sooner being ON THE DAY of our gig (again, if you want to come see us, check the introduction and description of the vlog!) which is a nerve-wracking thought. At least the classic Celestine tracks 'Outta Line' and 'Press Start' sound solid!

Thursday was a rather full day! Kaleidoscope Eyes rehearsal, Oddpulse rehearsal, a trip to the pub and back again to get enough rest for Friday! All of the day's activities went very well. I am very much looking forward to the Kaleidoscope Eyes gig on May 12th (again, introduction and description if you wanna come see us!) and I'm obviously always looking forward to anything Oddpulse-related. We're hoping for more opportunities to play our newer material live, whether this includes any previously-discussed festivals or not, I'm unsure currently, but I'm sure this will become clearer as the days go by! Seeing my friends Max and Zach is always rather fun, though I feel as if I'm drifting further and further away from them socially. I think it's most definitely not helped by the fact I don't drink. But either way, I love seeing them. Every moment I get to spend with them (and ONLY them, mind you, no plus ones) is a moment to be treasured forever. Playing trivia and laughing at silly photo edits is what makes us part of our generation, and I'm proud of that.

Friday began with the first of a few vital rehearsals for the debut performance by Jess & Jess, my friend Jessie's temporary university project which he began with another classmate called Jess (confused yet?) - when rehearsing together, with the addition of Rosie the bassist, we were able to run through the pair's two original songs rather quickly, and so we turned our attention towards the covers, one of which didn't quite fit the other, which was 'Don't Look Back In Anger' by Oasis. It was then decided, rather quickly too, to replace the initial suggestion of 'The Bidding' by Tally Hall with 'Parklife' by Blur, a song which I have been elected to sing the lead part in! So I'll be trying to prepare my best Phil Daniels impression in time for the performance which is happening on the same bill as the Iddiekronie show on May 13th! I then took to the city centre with my Oddpulse bandmates and close friends Lauren and Nick. We walked to the nearby Forest park, about fifteen minutes from the city to show Nick our flat from the outside (we aren't moving in till September, so we could only gaze at it from the street). We assured him that the two attic windows were in fact ours. We then played frisbee on the grass in the park and winded down with a coffee at the park's cafe, a pleasant building among the trees towards the very back of the green. Following our goodbyes, since the weather was still pleasant (and the buses unpleasantly packed out with snobs who would rather stand and hold onto the bars for dear life than sit next to a stranger), I walked the twenty-five-or-so minutes home, resulting in a total of over 18,000 steps achieved in a day, which I am rather proud of! Here's to more recreational walking this Summer!

This weekend, I haven't been up to a tremendous deal. I made some headway with an assignment of mine, and gathered a few appropriate references. Oh, and I made my own dunce cap for the Iddiekronie show! Only the most vital jobs these days, you know? Other than editing and preparing this episode for your viewing pleasure, I've enjoyed the last of the week's sunshine and occupied myself with plenty of writing and designing for various gigs and band projects. I'm sure there'll plenty more to discuss next week, so I'll talk to you again then!

I hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for reading! <3
