essay - evaluation of the reasons why the nazis achieved power by 1933

disclaimer: this is a shit and much shorter version of my real one. i was using this to revise. i am sorry if there is any typing errors

other factors besides resentment over the versailles treaty, economic difficulties and the appeal of hitler and the nazis include... weaknesses of the weimar republic and weaknesses and mistakes of opponents

at the end of ww1, germany was in political and economic chaos. kiel mutiny led to abdication of kaiser wilhelm ii during the november revolution - germany became a republic initially led by a provisional government. throughout the duraction of the weimar republic the nazis slowly began to grow led by the dynamic leader adolf hitler

resentment towards the versailles treaty: germany suffered huge loss of territory - all overseas colonies, 13% of territory e.g. a;sace and lorraine, polish corridor; severe military restrictions army 100,000, no air force and reparation payments of £6.6 billion. many germans called the teaty a 'diktat' (dictated peace) - hitler condemned the treaty and blamed the november criminals/ traitors of versailles for signing it. this is an important reason why they achieved power as germans found the terms humiliating; led to a rise in right wing extremism - hitler's condemnation and promise to abolish it and rebuild the army, gained the nazis popularity this is a less important reason why they achieved power as germans were already suffering from war weariness; did not want any further conflict with the allies over the treaty

economic difficulties: ruhr crisis/ hyperinflation crisis of 1922/23 - prices spiralled out of control; savings, mortgages and pensions blown away - rising support for extremists. after recovery under gustav stresemann germany was hit by the great depression (1930-32) - banks, factories and businesses closed, unemployment rise to 6 million. this is an important reason why they achieved power as it heightened the republics weaknesses and inability to deal with financial crises/ some turned to the nazis out of desperation. this is a less important reason why they achieved power as the republic did not collapse during the 1920's and early 1930's despite economic problems. had germany been overly angry about the terms they would have turned to the nazis earlier but they continued to vote for central parties until 1932

the appeal of hitler and the nazis: their 25 point program set out econimic and social policies; promised to abolish hated versailles treaty and create jobs/ rebuild the german industry and military strength. hitler provided strong leadership (oratory skills/ election campaigning); highly effective use of propaganda 'hitler: our last hope'. (joeseph goebbels/ sa intimidated opponents). this is an important reason why they achieved power as they appealed to wide sections of german society; hitler had charismatic leadership, gave the party vision and direction. this is a less important reason why they achieved power as many germans found antisemitism and behaviour of the sa distasteful; others did not take hitler or the nazi propaganda seriously
