Arkhorza, The Origin: Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Gorn the Timekeeper

Gorn once again sat as they waited for Syzer to return. They knew Syzer wouldn’t be gone for long. They expanded their mind once more into the outside, examining the voices. This, however, had started to become monotonous.

Two voices had begun fighting with each other about something. “You stole my will!” A familiar voice Gorn had decided to name Dolos screeched. Their voice sounded like a badly tuned viola.

“I didn’t even know this to be possible. I, Malcmen, swear that I have not.”

“You’re a liar.” Dolos responded. “You know it’s possible and you kept it secret.”

“How can I steal something that is not physical?” Malcmen made a noise similar to a sigh.

“Both of you, quiet,” Gorn began “Dolos, you’ve accused several other voices of this. You don’t even know what will means.”

They let out a slow exhale. “Sorry Gorn, you’re right. I’ve just been accusing my fellow voices of stealing my things. I should’ve been accusing you all along!”

“Come again?” Gorn raised an eyebrow, and subsequently felt the absence of Malcmen’s presence. Flee my boy, flee whilst you can.

“Malcmen said ‘how can I steal something that is not physical!?’” They gave a horrible impression of Malcmen’s calm voice. “Well, surely a physical being would be able to!”

Gorn cut their mind off from the voices, secluding themselves. They left themselves alone with their own thoughts, unbothered by anything outside.

Why am I even here? Gorn thought. Surely there is more purpose to this life than to vacantly observe voices, than to play games with Syzer. To observe was their calling, but what was there to observe? The voices are stagnant, there is no more left to discover. As these thoughts and feeling took over, Gorn could feel their body destabilize, like their motive to exist was disappearing. And right in the nick of time, a clear, masculine voice spoke.

“Creator of Time. Be careful.”

“Name yourself, voice. You are indistinguishable from infinite.”

“My name matters not, only yours Gorn. You and Syzer are the only things that matter, due to your physical forms.”

“What is your point?” Gorn said tirefully, truly done with the voices.

“You and Syzer make physical forms for us.” and before the voice could finish, Gorn retaliated. “No.”

“Why?”

“Me and Syzer, we earned our bodies. We balanced ourselves and became in tune with our aspects.”

“What’s to say that’s necessary to have a body?”

“I’m not even sure I could help you. Space is Syzer’s domain.”

Gorn stood and stomped away, each foot causing a sound like a storm. No matter how they walked however, they could feel the voice’s presence still. They trudged faster, pulling their centipede-like body with all of their force, trying to push the voice away. But the voice continued to follow. Finally, Gorn had enough.

“My answer is no and it shall stay that way until the end of time!” Gorn stated in annoyance, willing the voice to go away. Strangely, however, Gorn felt this will come off of themself and actually push the voice further.

“Perhaps you could have a purpose, though. To observe-”

“I shall observe how you earn your own body, now leave.” And so the voice was pushed away by Gorn’s will for it to leave.

Gorn stood, a small smile on their face. I did that they thought, I moved the voice away. Perhaps I am less powerless than I once thought. They stared into the void and willed the ocean to move a bit more. When they felt resistance, they softened and simply guided the sea of voices to move. A start. While staring into the difference however, Gorn spotted a familiar figure running towards him in the distance with a strange object behind him.

“GORN!” Syzer shouted, trailing his house with him. “Look what I did! I made a house!” he screamed with joy. But at the speed he had built up, he was unable to stop and crashed straight into Gorn, who took a hit to the chest. They fell on one knee. “Be careful my friend.”

“Gorn, did you see what I made?”

“Yes I see, that is truly amazing.” It took a second for Gorn to realize. “Hold on a tick, this isn’t a part of your body.”

“I know!” Syzer exclaimed with joy. “You try, you try!”

“Syzer, space is your domain, I’m not sure if I can.”

“Just try it anyway!”

Gorn reluctantly focused their will right in front of themselves, and guided it to create exactly what they were thinking. Guided it to create something simple, to flow in shapes and patterns to form what Gorn wanted. A simple pile of hay and a pillow. A bed.

“I made something too..!” Gorn smiled, walking over and sitting down on their bed, making themselves comfortable. “I made something, Syzer.”

“Yeah you did! Now we both have places to do stuff!” Syzer laughed, rushing into his house.
