bro im a loser!!!!!!!! shoujo manga nostalgia review

I've been rewatching and rereading a lot of anime and manga from my early teens, and it's been an incredibly joyous experience.

Shoujo manga raised me, I love it with my whole heart and soul, so that's what this post is gonna be about

Fruits Basket (both 2001 and 2019):

Where do I even begin with this series omfg. Tohru is literally my favourite and anyone who would ever dare disrespect her will have their head on a PIKE by the end of the day /hj. The romance is so so cute and I love the characters (even Akito, I hate them but what a character). so so fun 10/10 would rewatch every day. LOVE the new animation and complete story, but the nostalgia of the 2001 one goddam

Lovely Complex:

Literally, this show has climbed the ranks of being my favourite anime/manga series ever; it *almost* beats Fruits Basket. The visual comedy is so peak and actually brainrotted, I cry laughing every single episode, actually. Risa is literally me I am her, she's taking L after L like DAMN GIVE HER A BREAK😭😭 But fr I love her she's literally just a girl. They're just sillies doing silly things, plus there's trans rep. While it's def not as respectful as today's standards for treating a trans person (i.e. a regular person??? lmao hello????  please respect trans ppls human rights) for the time this manga was written (2001) and the anime was made (2007), I think it's a pretty alright and realistic portrayal of what being trans was like back then in that part of Japan. ngl Seiko makes me cry. I love my hyper-femme girliequeen.

Beauty Pop:

Okay, objectively speaking, this manga is KINDA mid. BUT BUT BUT!!!!!!!! It's really entertaining to me, and I think the main protag is really interesting and I love her sm. I love a nonchalant MC, and especially I love her sense of style. The whole manga is about the beauty industry (hair, nails, makeup, salon stuff) and helping girls feel pretty in a time where casual sexism was a social norm, but some of the stuff being said is kinda out of pocket 😭 doesn't age very well but I think its rlly cute and fun and I refuse to be judged for it.

Kitchen Princess:

THIS!!! THIS IS THE ONE!!!! my first love of a manga. It's so dramatic and fun and super cute with like, two *SPOILER*huge dramatic plot twists in the middle, and I live for it fr. It's kinda all about cooking and creating a healthy emotional bond with food, which I love, and it even has recipes for all the different foods that the chapters are named after. I remember my sister taking all of them and rewriting them into a little notebook, and we still eat bruschetta the same way LOL. The MC is also one who takes L after L, but she's so positive and tries so hard and loves making food for people so much. Najika my queen <3

Peach Girl:

Okay... this is an entirely different genre of messy. It's dramatic, problematic, and sometimes is just so whack asf. If you want peace of mind, do not watch this. I had NO BUSINESS watching this at my young age wtf????? Scandal after scandal, it's so crazy, but if you're into ridiculous drama that will stress you tf OUT??? Then I do recommend it, it's such an entertaining train wreck to watch, just can't look away, man. I do suggest looking up the TWs for it tho? Just in case you need them.

Other series that I may be revisiting soon:

High School Debut, Butterfly (Papillion?), Beast Master (ik how it sounds...), Faeries Landing, Negima (maybe??? long shot), Pitchi Pitchi Pitch (first manga ever, I think omg I luv), etc (whatever else I can remember)

Anyway, the yap fest is over. Go home, be safe.

Love,

🫀🎱mint🎱🫀
