my honest opinion about music and feelings

sooo i've been thinking abt how much music really messes with our mood. like it seriously does.
music can either drag you down deeper or lift you up when you're feeling like trash.

let's say u just got dumped and not just dumped, but like... she left you for your brother 😢
(obviously that’s a wild example but go with it lol)
anyway, you're feeling like the world is ending, and if you’re anything like me, you open your playlist and hit play.

now if the song goes something like
“ugh i miss her so much, without her i’m nothing, blah blah /e cry, /e die of heartbreak”
…you’re gonna feel ten times worse. suddenly you're not just sad.. you're the main character of the saddest movie EVER! :'(

but if you play something more like:
“lol whatever, i don’t need anyone, i’m hot, i’m cool, i love myself, and everyone else can rot”
then BOOM, your mood shifts. you're dancing around like “who even was that girl?? never heard of her.”

it’s like music puts words to feelings we didn’t know how to explain, and depending on the words… it either helps or hurts.

i'm not saying you have to listen to happy stuff when you're sad!! sometimes crying to music is cathartic af.
but at least for me, the vibe of the song totally steers the direction of how i feel.
and sometimes choosing the right song helps me get out of a bad place faster.

idk, maybe it’s not that deep… or maybe it is LOL
either way, music hits hard.

it actually is kinda that deep lol. Music is like an langue our brain can understand,, it affects our emotional state because it triggers brain chemicals like dopamine. A happy beat can boost that dopamine so even if youre sad your body kinda starts to "fake" being happy and your mood just goes along whit it. And the funny thing is that a big part of it is tied to evoluiton! Humans evolved to be sensetive to sound because it helped us staying alive (hearing footsetps, other animals etc) and after a while our brains started to associate emotions whit sounds. Most of the melodys you hear in songs just mimick nature. For example when the melody rising slowly and softly it mimics someone speaking gently or softly. when melody is sharp loud and fast it mimicks someone yelling in anger or exciment. Our brains recognizes the vocal tones. Thats why a sad violin sounds like crying or a happy flute can sound like cheering. (sorry for the long comment im disgustingly intrested on this topic)

Oh this is true for sureeee
I've never actually met anyone that says that music can't change your emotions, it's quite literally one of the biggest effects that music has on me!

I feel this a lot. lots of times i have mental breakdowns under my blankets with a song playing on repeat and it never fails to make me feel the way i want it to. if i somehow want to feel worse, i’d play “kill you” by korn. if better, something by the smashing pumpkins. it’s great.
