scene is a alternative subculture that was popular among teenagers/young people, it was created in the 1990s and became popular in the early 2000s. Members of the scene subculture were referred to as scene kids, trendies, or scenesters. Before 2005 scene clothes were darker colors like black or grey like emo. Scene is basically the opposite from emo. Scene is also movement that supports the lgbt and is all about expressing themselves and standing out, diying , fashion, music , socializing and making new friends, supporting and going to underground artist shows, being cringe and free.
"How did the scene subculture start?"
The scene subculture was originated from the emo subculture Then quickly they had their own subculture which became a lot more different than emo with their bright colors and the way they dress and did their hair. Scene and emo had a lot of similarities but were completely different even though scene is based off emo.

Although scene kids were associated with musical styles like metalcore, crunkcore, neon pop-punk, and electro pop there was never a scene genre like there was for other subculture like emo, goth and punk but scene music was just a mix of almost everything even though they didn't have their own genre.
Where the scene kids were in the mid 2000s when it became popular
Scene kids started using myspace when myspace was first becoming a thing, then in the late 2000s scene kids were really popular on myspace and were known to be on there a lot, they all got outfits, hair ideas, and even music taste on there. they took many pictures in the bathroom in their myspace photos or showed the outfits they had on. they were also on you tube doing hair/makeup tutorials or just videos doing goofy things. Scene kids were really active on any social media that was in the 2000s and were really into making new friends and socializing with other scene kids. Scene kids had another website they would use and it was called "Vampire freaks" where alot more alternative people would hangout but also scene AND emo people would be on there and take photos and videos.
scene makeup
scene makeup included thick black eyeliner, neon or black eyeshadow pale-ish foundation or powder , concealer lips or bright pink lipstick , liquad eyeliner , and false eyelashes. scene makeup kinda looked pale but what would make it stand out was the eyeshadow and alot of eyeliner that was heavy.
scene fashion and hair
scene fashion is really important especially the hair, they tease their hair and put a lot of hairsprays, most of them have big hair from the fact they put extensions and teased hair, they cut their hair with razors or scissors. They buy their clothes from thrift stores, they would make simple clothes look different from just adding accessories or layering the clothes. Tutus, printed tights, skinny jeans, shorts, graphic tees, colored band tees, skirts, and fishnets for legs and arms were what scene kids wore in the 2000s. Accessories were really big and made the outfit more different and unique, accessories like bracelets, necklaces, chains, and hair accessories really made the outfit look unique even when they had simple outfits on. The hair is also really important because it makes the whole outfit even if you don't have scene clothes on.
As I said before scene hair is really important but also I forgot to add that scene hair is always dyed, scene kids in the 2000s would always have at least one spot or highlights dyed and if they didn't they would put colored extensions in their hair. They either had bright or neon hair or their extensions would be a different color of their hair to stand out. Alot of scene kids would either use hair dye colors like pink, black, green, blue purple, red , blonde or just any color that was bright.

scene queens and scene kings
Scene Queenz were really popular on myspace, they were the internet's first stars in the 2000s, the term scene queen became really popular in the scene subculture and every scene kid or scene person knew who a scene queen was. their hair was big or brightly dyed or if not their hair would be styled and the makeup was really pretty and bright, scene queen celebrities were audrey kitching, hanna beth , kiki cannibal , Jeffre star, Jac vanek , lexi lush, hilary haywire, and of course the millionaires. Alot of scene queens like neon stuff and bright colors and of course cupcakes, skelanimals and hello kitty. They liked diamond necklaces and skulls but the skull would have pink bows on the head, they were really known on myspace, scene queens like Audrey kitching were really popular on myspace and modeled for scenes. Scene queens liked shopping , taking picture or modeling , they liked going out and partying.
Scene kingz were also popular on myspace they just didn't do modeling like scene queens but of course they took pictures, scene kings had excessive amount of friends on myspace they would take alot of pictures of themselves and they would have piercing like snack bites ,septums ,monroe , and gauges and of course these piercing is what almost ever scene kid wore not just scene kings. the hair they would wear was peacock hair or hair that would stick up, not a mow hawk or liberty spikes if you think that but hair that was like scene but short and in the back it would stick up a little. they teased their hair and made it big and would somtimes make their hair look like emo hair but somewhat different. They liked to go to events like concerts and hanging out with friends.
"What characters do scene kids like?"
scene kids favor characters like hello kitty, gir from invader Zim, skelanimals, domo kun , kuromi, Rainbow dash from my little pony and also gloomy bears, game characters, Pikachu, my little pony characters, Monster high characters, nyan cat, and they like characters that are colorful or fit their personality.
what the scene subculture favors
They favor thick eyeliner or dark eyeshadow, brightly colored hair, raccoon tails hair, accessories, jewelry, music, extensions, tights, and out with friends at parties or just hanging out. They of course also favored hello kitty , skelanimals and domo kun a lot in the 2000s. they also favored zebra print and cheetah print too, Kandi and silicone rubber bands.
"scene is a poser style of emo"
While this is true, in 2005 scene was dark just like emo but just a little more different and then around 2008 or 2007 it had neon and bright colors clothing or shoes with colored hair and they were really social which was the opposite of emo because they only focused more on dark colors , studded belts and skull printed anything while scene was just bright colors or neon colors and hello kitty stuff, but some scene kids did like what emo liked and what scenes like so people made a name for them and it was "Scemo" kids or people. Scemo kids were just combination of emo and scene as they either dressed emo and scene with dark and neon colors and liked scene and emo stuff. they were also kind of popular in the 2000s.
Scene subculture first began as a poser style of emo but quickly changed into the opposite of emo style wise, Alot of scene kids did like emo music Then scene kids made a genre called crunk core which was electro pop and hip hop and scrunk which was screamo mixed with crunk, they enjoyed songs that had lyrics that were about partying, social life and relationships. scene isn't exactly a poser style of emo anymore, but it did used to be.
"Scene isn't a music based subculture"
This isn't actually true because scene started out as music before it was a style and lots of scene kids love music, scene kids discovered crunkcore which became really popular in the scene subculture, even though scene is more about fashion and hair it's also about music too. In the 2000s scene kids loved music they had lots of band tees and had shirts with their favorite band or artist, so yes scene is a music and fashion subculture.
the revival of scene
The scene subculture began to become popular in the mid 2000s to the early 2010s, it started becoming unpopular around 2014 or 2013 then it made a comeback in 2017 and then "Scenecore" style started in 2020 which was based off the scene culture but wasn't scene at all nor the music was the same. when scene became to have a comeback again, they named it "The rawring 20s". Now since scene came back some of the scene styles has changed.

scene girls
scene girls often mix match neon colors, animal print like zebra or leopard and cheetah, or hello kitty stuff or cartoon characters. their hair is teased high high and big with lots of layers and asymmetrical cut and they dye their hair a lot with colors like blue, pink, green, and many other colors like I stated in another sentence. scene girls are known to wear pinkish stuff or just any girly stuff like tutus , bows and any hello kitty stuff.
scene boys
scene boys often wear band tees, bright or just black skinny jeans, and hoodies. their hair is usually teased with lots of layers too, they dye their hair with vibrant colors like blue, pink, black, blonde and etc. They also wear makeup like eyeshadow, heavy eyeliner or just a little bit of eyeliner on the bottom.
