I wish I wasnt an artist

Dont get me wrong its really fun to be an artist but I feel like being an art student is actually the worst thing ever. Art is never taken seriously as a career, you're sort of ostracised but not in the way people usually think. "oh they're a depressed artist, or they're a recluse artist or oh they're a weird quirky "following my own destiny" artist." No its more like everyone is living life normally going up the building in the elevator while you are the one person who couldn't fit and volunteered to take the stairs, only for the them to point and laugh at you when you reach the top last. Because who in their right mind would willingly take the stairs! what an idiot! I honestly envy people who could pursue a socially acceptable occupation where all you have to do is be present to be seen. I dont know how many times Ive been asked what exactly illustration is used for when I tell them Im an illustration major. As if they arent reading a book with an illustrated cover, drinking coffee out of a mug with their favourite flower print on it, as if they havent spent the previous hour at the movies watching an animated feature. As an artist its eye opening when you realise that people have no idea where their favourite entertainment comes from, they just assume that everything pops into existence. I had to explain to one of my friends that you actually need to sketch out and make concept art of things like spaceships in movies, people design props with purpose and meaning in mind, and no its not just "oh lets cgi a spaceship in" and poof theres a spaceship. Im not ashamed of my choice in career but rather embarrassed for others who shame artists while not realising how essential art is in their own life. You are literally biting the hand that feeds you.
