🎞️ A Ghost Story (2017)
It’s a movie where a guy dies and becomes a ghost in a bed sheet. Like, literally — a white sheet with eye holes. And somehow it’s the saddest thing I’ve ever seen?
There’s barely any dialogue, just long silences and the sound of a house forgetting someone. It’s slow, yeah, but in the way a thunderstorm is slow. You know something’s building. I watched it at 2 a.m. with Crumb snoring next to me and felt like I was floating in soup made of my own memories.
Verdict: Not for people who need explosions. Yes for people who cry at cracked windows and leftover pie.
🎞️ Paterson (2016)
It’s about a bus driver who writes poems in a notebook and lives the same day over and over, with small changes. That’s it. That’s the plot. And it’s beautiful.
The rhythm of it — waking up, walking the dog, writing a few lines, drinking a beer — it hit me in that part of my brain that likes routine but resents clocks. There’s a quiet grace to it. Like the world is whispering all the time and Paterson’s one of the few people who actually listens.
Verdict: 10/10 for people who like their poetry under their breath.
🎞️ Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)
Imagine if your favorite sad musician from Tumblr was an immortal vampire with a record collection that could kill a man. That’s this movie.
It’s slow, soaked in amber lighting and nighttime streets. The dialogue feels like late-night texts from someone who’s seen too much and doesn’t know what to do with it. Tom Hiddleston wears velvet and sulks for most of it, which I respect. There’s also a scene involving a blood popsicle.
Verdict: Not really a vampire movie. More like a love letter to art, music, and decay of time. Watch with wine or lukewarm root beer.
