How is Islam mistaken with culture?

A lot of people assume that Islam is mainly inspired by Arab culture, and sometimes even Arab mistake and mix between both, which is a huge mistake that led so many people to be mislead by this misconception. In this blog, I'll be discussing the similarities and differences between Culture and Islam, and if culture has any power or effect over Islam's rulings.

1. Islam & Culture:

Our Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said("I was sent to perfect good morals"), this indicates that Arabs already have their good morals and ethics, whish only need to be "upgraded". Generosity, Bravery, Knowledge, these are some of the manners that Arabs were attached to, that Islam approves of and encourages.

2. Islam vs. Culture:

On the other hand, Islam eliminates and forbids the unethical and immoral wrongdoings of not only the Arab culture, but any other culture. Drinking, violence in all its ugly forms, preferring one gender over the other, killing daughters out of shame, killing kids out of poverty, raising depts, racism, all these oppressive behaviors are strictly forbidden in Islam, and these are just a drop of a sea.

3. Does culture have any power over Islam's rules?

No, Islam's rules can never be changed to align with any culture, forbidden is forbidden, an obligation is an obligation. however Islam does suggest that when a certain behavior is often practiced or demanded in a certain culture, as long that it doesn't clash with Islam's rules, it's preferred that it's followed. For example: In some countries the majority of hijabed women wear a certain color, it's not prohibited to wear that color, nor it is an obligation, but the hijabed women in these countries are encouraged to wear that color, in order not to clash out with the norm.

In conclusion, Culture And Islam are two different concepts, one is set by people, the other by the Almighty God. They share some teachings and clash out in others, but Islam will always be the first to be followed, and the one to inspire and affect, not the other way around
