This story is set in 2010. The main characters are 17 and seniors in high school.

Kati and Dalyn met in 8th grade during math class. They bonded over similar music and being bad at math. They've been inseparable since. 

Kati comes from and upper middle class family. Her mother is a lawyer and her father is a 4 star general in the US military. She is an only child and she has a pet hamster named Kandi. She is Russian-American, Russian on her moms side and American on her dads. She has lived in New York, New York her whole life and loves the city. 

Dalyn grew up below the poverty line. His mother works two jobs, one being Walmart and the other is Hot Topic. His father is a gang member and divorced his wife and lives in a separate house to protect his family. He is still in love with his wife and absolutely adores his son and twin daughters. His father is only in the gang because he was born into it however, he left because his vein in the gang ends with him.

Kati and Dalyn are very very close, literally the bestest of friends. Kati knows about Dalyns financial and home situation and has never nor does she judge him. Also Dalyn didn't even know she had wealthy parents when they met or a few months after. They have a pretty good friend group right now but none of them know either persons home or financial situations.
