biggest steven universe critique

posted about this on tumblr, but i really hate that the gems know nothing about human culture, despite watching civil wars and technology be created. they've implied previous platonic and romantic relationships with humans, meaning they had to have some base knowledge of culture to form/maintain a relationship on. they would've totally been in the clubs, and i wish they would've used their age for humor more. imagine pearl revealing weird secrets about history, or amethyst having niche skills from weird side quests. garnet having dad lore. you could still keep alien awkwardness, they're just more informed, maybe TOO informed.
