I need to rant about this somewhere. I know nobody is going to see it but I need to scream about this.
Can I just say that nothing makes me more upset than the fact that good writing gets flagged as AI simply because the punctuation is correct and the person writing it has a large vocabulary? For example I just saw a video saying that the use of em dashes, oxford commas, and simicolons are one of the biggest indicators of AI. GOD FORBID A GIRL HAD A FAN-FIC WRITING PHASE AND KNOWS WHAT THOSE ARE AND HOW TO PROPERLY USE THEM.
It just makes me so irrationally upset that proper punctuation—such as the em dash depicted in this sentence—can no longer be used by real human writers because AI tends to use it more frequently than people do. "—" looks so much cleaner and flows so much better than "," (and adding parentheses looks clunky 99% of the time).
Like why must I dumb down my writing—both professionally and creatively—because someone decided we needed a ton of creative writing AI algorithms? And yes, I'm using the em comma more often here than I typically would, because I want to prove a point that it just flows Better!
Why is it that so many students have to run their non-AI writing through an AI humanizer to avoid getting flagged for AI? Isn't that the most ironic and ridiculous thing you've ever heard? AI has ruined nearly every art form we have, and I fear it has ruined self expression and the ability to make money off of your own creative works for all future generations.
Anyways, that was my rant.
thanks for reading :)
