My personal reasons why I believe religion was made and why I think it's all BS. (MY OPINION!)

God probably isn't real. There are many reasons, however, my reasons are a little more weird than others. Most people would say "god isn't real because there is no evidence" and that is a true statement. We do not have any factual evidence of god existing except a Bible/Quran/wtver that is written by man.

But, I personally have an idea. Religion exists because of fear. Fear of what exactly? Well, many fears actually.

Fear of death, for example. The aspect of heaven and hell. Paradise and misery after death. This was created for a sense of comfort. A sense of comfort that you won't actually die, but live in a paradise that you earned because you did good in life. A sense of comfort that your loved ones aren't fully dead but are actually looking from above and seeing your accomplishments. Man created this picture-perfect image of despair and bliss so that they don't fear death and what comes after. You were good in your short-lived life? You get to be in a utopia where everything you need is there. Oh, wait, you weren't good? Than you get the misery that even Satan won't crave. It's funny, fear even makes people be in line.

Or, for another example, fear of curiosity. This might be confusing for some of you. Why would humans, animals so intelligent and curious, be scared of the thing they were made for? Simple. Terror. Being terrified of what's out there, of the things that aren't in the happy little box that you keep yourself in. New ideas terrify humans. That was one of the reasons for the Salem witch trials. They were scared of the idea that woman weren't as stupid as people thought they were. Terrified that maybe, because of intelligent woman, and or as they called them "witches", they were losing wars and being gotten rid of. They were scared. Fearful of new ideas. So, they said "we are doing this for god." blaming a non existent entity and innocent women for their failures, being scared that women were curious, even as curious as them. They blame god for this. Or, lets take our generation for example. Equality being the curiosity that men are fearful by. Curiosity of equality within all human kinds being what THEY are fearful of because the idea of that was foreign to them. Because they don't understand and the curiosity of the younger generation terrifies them. So, they blame prejudice for being faithful to their god.

Those are 2 major examples I go by.

God doesn't exist. Mankind is just fearful of the things they don't understand. So they just say "God is the reason."

I liked hearing about your thoughts!

I am Catholic but there are a few things i agree with you on! Like how some people say God isnt real due to lack of evidence, and how some things could have been made up due to fear. But... There was some evidence if you really look in to it. I mean some people have actually found the skull of Jesus. Now im not saying that what your saying is wrong. But we never know if there is a God or not.

Anyways I like how your not telling people to stop believing what they believe in, but your saying YOUR reason and opinion. And i totally understand :D

This is a very Abrahamic-monotheistic view on religion as a whole, but I don't fully disagree. I've been raised by Christian and Hindu people with lots of influence from Islam in my years, I never understood how all of them could call their religion the real and correct one.

I understand that religion was created out of fear, but also out of curiosity and the limited knowledge of ones time. Take polytheistic religions for example, where there's a god or goddess for everything: the sea, the sky, fire, love, women, time, you name it. These deities represent a part of person's life they love or fear, something they want to protect or be protected by. And I don't think that's entirely bad, the thing is that we cannot know if God is real, we all speculate based on our own experiences and beliefs. And because of this, I can't fully believe nor not believe on God, I just think that religion is too organized and forced into a step-by-step book.

When I felt confused about my religious beliefs, I looked into philosophy and spiritualism, and I found many similarities in them. Not because of God, but because of the similarities found in practices.

People will accept mediation over praying a lot faster, but to me, it's the same thing. When you meditate, you look within yourself, look for answers. When you pray, you talk to God from within yourself, asking for things or looking for answers. In scientific terms this really means you're just strengthening your own neural pathways.

People need a beacon of light, hope, something they can hold on to during hard times. This could be religion, a person, a hobby, anything that can help them cope with their life's hardships. That's why many desperate people seek guidance, other people won't offer it to them so they call to God instead. And lots of people benefit from this emotionally and mentally, but that's not necessarily because God is on their side now. One of the cheesiest but realest advices you can give to someone is to stay positive and hopeful, having something like that to fall back on guarantees it.

I don't outright believe in God or that the universe is conscious, but I do take in information and knowledge from each source and apply it in my physical life.

If God is real and merciful, God will have seen I followed my own path and did the best I could.

People have misused the name of God to fit their own personal agendas while being hypocritical and selectively following their own religion. Especially in a male-dominated world with power-hungry leaders. That's why I don't associate with any religions, I believe your connection with God or the universe should be a personal one, one that's not carved out by people who don't know or support you. All this if you choose to believe of course.

I don't regret my spiritual practices, because I only choose to take the positive aspects of each side, I straight up deny any negative and harmful beliefs as a part of my journey.

I kind of derailed from your actual post, but I completely understand where you're coming from. Those points can't be ignored, but I also believe that if God is real, a lot of those people would be burning in Hell for their extreme hypocrisy against the people they tried to oppress.

Something to keep in mind is that before our modern time, people basically only existed for religion. During feudalism, you toiled the fields as punishment from god, etc. This show how religion as an institution is used to control opinion and continue exploitation.
For example, I forget which, but there was a peasant revolution that did not fully commit because they waited for a sign from god. It of course never came - god isnt real, but its also an example of how by design (intentional or not) religion worked as a tool for control.
Religion is also universal, but its universal in the sense that similar religions evolve during the stages of civilization. In early primitive times (before civilization, agriculture, etc) religion took the form of animism and spirits, and only as society developed and exploitation came to being (such as slavery) did "Gods" come to being. Because of this we can see that it is highly unlikely for a single true religion to exist. If it did, it would likely be the only one, and be here since forever.
God is a consequence of our world, our world is not a consequence of god.

Yes, you're right, but I think there are other reasons too. The one I believe in the most is this: people want to feel superior. They want to believe their existence is meaningful. Because we have a mind, we can think, and that makes us feel special. So we assume there must be a purpose. And if there is a purpose, then we must be above other beings. Even in wars, this idea was used to make people feel superior and to manipulate them. I believe religion was created for the same reason as a way to control people. And I don’t know why, but I feel sorry for people because of this.

fair but i still think thers a reason for everything i don't think that was the only reason just for it
when you look at how some certain things work its hard to believe thers not something that design things on how they are like how thers a sun rise and a moon ,how nature works to keep its eco system alive , how almost every planet have a value to earth for it to having life, how perfectly and mathematicaly the humany body is shaped
i mean yeah you can say with a infinit amount of time infinit amount of things can happen which is what we are but its crazy how some things "coincidentally" works with eachother

There may be an entity or occurrence culpable for the seemingly 'perfect' design of the universe or the very notion of existence--but said entity or occurrence, i believe, simply can't be perceived through the inherently faulty lens of the human mind, as all interpretations of this exalted concept will be confined by our subjective way of thought--or at least, that's what I think.

Was interesting to read your thoughts! You perhaps talked about why people made a god more than why you personally don't believe in it which is okay!
Religion, specifically Christianity is a sign of hope more than comfort. And sure people were scared of witches and all that silly stuff we could laugh at now, but honestly, I think they were just oblivious.. maybe even a very long time ago people didn't even think of such deep phycological thoughts?
Anyways I don't believe in god because I believe in science! Even when that itself litteraly seems scary: us being alone in the vast universe. People just needed an explanation, something to blame.
And I let people live in that oblivion, I'm quite jealous sometimes.. people have hope and answers to life's biggest questions, they're brought by commiunity and love.
I dont like it when they shove it down my throat and force it tho, how I had with my grandmother.
Anyways, hope you liked my little discussion! Have a nice day :D

It was very interesting to read your comment! I also relate so much to the grandmother bit. Both of my grandmothers are hardcore Muslim's and when I was kid my grandmother would make me learn the Quran, and because my country has HEAVY Muslim propaganda I would participate.

Anyway, have a nice day to you to and thank you for commenting! :D
