Promotional Wallpapers Are Cool!

As far back as the late 90s to what I found to be around 2012, companies would make and post wallpapers for their upcoming IP on the official websites. They had options for many different monitor resolutions that were common at the time such as 1024x768 (4:3) and the emerging 1280x1024 (5:4). I think that this is a lost form of advertising. A modern example that comes to mind for me is Nintendo, who released monthly wallpapers for the release of Pikmin 4. Using search filters I find them all the time for things I am interested in. Here are some examples below. I have a big folder of them on a slideshow for my desktop so I can always think of that era. I should also mention they are a ton of fan-made wallpapers like these as well on places like deviantart and older sites like minitokyo.net (anime). Check the wallpapers out and read the 15 year old comments. They are so cute and feel much more innocent than how anime can be percieved today.
