it gets a bad rep cuz of the dumb tcc ppl who think cal and andre r charecters to aspire to be like or erase the entire point of the film
yes u can relate to them because they r teenage boys who mostly just act like teenage boys and thats the point. it could be anybody even the most averege teenager who ends up doing sumthing bad
the reasen it works so well is because the 2 boys andre keuck and cal robertson (who play andre kriegman and calvin gabriel) r just high school boys in theater irl, not big actors, so they know how to just act like themselfs. and because its like a found footege, they just have to act like teenage boys on camera. its easy and thats y its so good, its just the lives of 2 (mostly) reguler kids documenting there aventures and thougths to there cams
i think part of why elephant sucks in comparisen is cuz elephant isnt found footege of 2 kids being kids, evreything is staged and scripted like a reguler movie and its allso just kindof wierd. it just doesnt work for the seriosness of the situatian, they tryed to hard to make elephant more like art insted of reality
the messege of zero day isnt "look at these 2 poor boys who r so bullyed they have to do sumthing bad, lets feel bad for them :("
the messege of zero day is "white boys who have a god complex and get into nazi shit are on a slippery slope and u should not be like this". because yes mabey cal and andre r bullyed but not overly. they r bullyed probly the same amount the avrage high schooler is. i got called names in hs and didnt have many friends eather but u dont see me planning on killing ppl over it
and yes mabey cal and andre are gay for eachother but thats allso not the point of the movey. andre keuck in a interveiw said that if they decided to explore there feelings for eachother zero day probly wouldnt of happened because alot of that tension wouldof just been gone. they wouldof spend hours exploring eachothers bodys insted of shooting up the school. his words (paraphrased)
when u miss the entire point of a rlly good movie about social issues because ur focussed on the shipping aspect then thats on u dude

for anyone who hasnt seen zero day and u have a neg oppinion of it because of the fandom, if ur able to handle the vilence at the end (u cant see much of anything cuz its cctv footege but the screaming and crying can be a bit much to handle if ur sensative to that stuff), i do recomend it. its genuinly a very good film. its suppose to be hard to watch, its suppose to make you think, its suppose to leave u feeling uncomfortble, ITS SUPPOSE TO MAKE YOU THINK. ITS SUPPOSE TO MAKE YOU THINK!!!

Zero day is indeed a rad movie, i love the rawness portrayed in the scenes. However the fans and the fandom are sickos.. which is sad i mean id really like to rewatch the movie if only there weren’t bugs up my ass romanticising school shooting and REAL factual events due to the actors.
* adding up few things here:
the movie can be viewed in different aspects, and about the relationship between these tho it they actually acted it out the movie would have been stereotyped which is a bummer. The situationship was there, it has to be said, other than that. I cannot express how much i have enjoyed this film, utterly fantastic and very mind twisting.

i think zero day is cool cuz it does the found footage aesthetic so well. about halfway though watching, i forgot i was watching a movie and felt like i was actually watching the tapes these kids left behind. and the whole thing is so eerie, the same way watching video clips of r&b and similar cases are, because you know how the story ends. you know what these kids end up doing. and yet they seem so.. normal. they have lives, play games, go to prom just like any other normal students would.
plus, i think it has good commentary on some of the discussion surrounding e&d. ppl looove to spread the narrative that “eric was a controlling psychopath and dylan was depressed and manipulated into it”
it’s clear in the movie though andre’s violent and more angry personality that he’s supposed to be a stand in or representation or eric and cal is dylan. in the scene where iirc cal is in the graveyard with rachel, rachel says that she feels like andre is the leader of the two. when in reality, they’re both equally sick.
great acting, great execution of the found footage aesthetic, overall good movie.
