Hyrule was once a flourishing kingdom, home to many different races: Hylians, Gorons, Zoras, Ritos, and Gerudo. The kingdom was led by the Royal Family and was protected by the powerful Champions, legendary warriors chosen from each race. The kingdom had advanced technology, much of it from an ancient civilization, which created the Divine Beasts (massive, mechanical creatures) and the Guardians (small, robotic sentries) to protect the land.A long time ago, Calamity Ganon—a malevolent force—arose and threatened to destroy Hyrule. Despite the kingdom’s preparations, including the Guardians and the Divine Beasts, Ganon’s power proved overwhelming.
The Champions were chosen to pilot the Divine Beasts in an attempt to defeat Ganon. However, Ganon was able to corrupt the Divine Beasts and their pilots, causing them to turn against Hyrule. The kingdom fell, and the Hero, the one chosen to defeat Ganon, was unable to stop it.
Calamity Ganon’s power overtook Hyrule, causing a cataclysmic event known as the Great Calamity, which led to the fall of Hyrule. The royal family, including Princess Zelda, were forced to flee and seal Ganon away, but at a great cost.
Zelda, with the help of the power of the Goddess Hylia, was able to hold Ganon at bay inside Hyrule Castle, preventing him from fully breaking free.
Link, the Hero chosen to stop Ganon, was gravely injured during the battle against the Calamity. He was placed in a healing slumber inside the Shrine of Resurrection for 100 years to recover.
