If you've seen the barbie movies, Mermaidia is good, but it comes after Fairytopia. I was born in 2000 so the Barbie movies were a big staple of my childhood, BUT the Bratz movies have a much stronger 2000s nostalgia vibe to them. I don't think they made a mermaid one, but if you like the kind of story where people have secret powers, the genie one and the fairy one are really good. My sister recommends The Thirteenth Year (boy turns into mermaid, Disney Movie) but I remember that movie being way more 90s than 2000s.
I have now gone to get my DVD book because this post made me so eyes open about my childhood nostalgia lmao. A lot of it is mainstream stuff people know about BUT of note I did also find Hoodwinked (fairytale detective investigation, very sarcastic tone, kind of like shrek but less adult jokes), Ella Enchanted (fairytale stuff, girl is cursed to obey any command she's given, very sassy, dancing to pop music), and Zathura (Josh Hutcherson as a kid, the house gets sent to space because they started a board game, think like space jumanji).

omggg i love mermaid movies too!! Maybe you could watch "the thirteenth year" (1999) its disney channel but its super 2000s vibes!
