I'll just put this message out there to get this finally off my mind but..
One day, at a thrift event I was deciding if to get a CD player or not. I wandered around, looking at all the CDs and vinyls, I thought 'wow these cost so much money, why would anyone buy these'. But a part of me was curious. My new classmate had a cd player and I thought she was really cool. Growing up with just Youtube and Spotify as my music source, I had no idea what to expect. I left that day, but thought about it all night.
The next morning I went there again, got 10 euros and bought a shitty cd player with 2 cds. I was so happy, It was entirely my decision and as soon as I got in the old family car, I put on one. It was such a refreshing thing from the radio, total silence from the world and only that album to be heard.
Anyways that was October of last year, now I own over 60 CDs and I listen to them everyday when I get home, or go out to the city. It changed my life. I left a person that didn't let me express my music interests and I started listening to stuff I actually liked and I understood why bands like Foo Fighters, RHCP are so popular, BECAUSE THEY ARE GOOD!! I didn't listen to them before because I thought they were poser bands, but with no other accessible albums, I got them and played them in the car for me and my whole family to listen to.
We got a new car. It's eco, sure.. but there is no CD player, it has a screen with Spotify, I haven't had any new memories vibing in the car since then.
It took away the simpleness and happiness of listening to music with family, further distancing myself from them :,)
Stuff is alright tho, I'm happy the whimsy I feel each time I listen to the CD player open, load and spin, then the little brrr when the album is done and the button I press to repeat the tracks again. I love writing song names by numbers to remember which ones I like and sending the hidden gems to my friends!
I don't have the nostalgia for physical media, but I appreciate it and take it all in.
Would recommend.
