Simple HTTYD3 rant (Spoilers, duh.)

I love the How to Train Your Dragon series a lot, but I can't ever get rid of my hatred for the third movie, The Hidden World. I've rewatched, and rewatched - but I genuinely just hate it, and I feel like posting about it to no one. ^_^
The Hidden World in general is not a bad movie, but when you watch almost everything in the series, shows included, The Hidden World just becomes a steaming heap of shit compared to any other movie in the franchise.

The Hidden World mainly seems to follow the topic of finding yourself as a person and learning to deal with loss and go on your own independent jounreys; both Hiccup and Toothless do this in the movie and go their own separate ways to live their own lives as human and dragon - at least that's what it seems to be about.
There is a villain, of course; Grimmel, a man who was said to "kill all Night Furies," (BS) or whatever - and he wants to kill Toothless himself, so he uses a Light Fury, a subspecies of Night Fury, to bait Toothless and toy with him before capturing them both. That's basically it.
So, my issues with this? Pretty simple. If you watch the first two movies, alongside the short films and TV shows, this plot seemingly makes no sense. In Gift Of The Night Fury, a holiday special short film, Hiccup makes Toothless his own tail so he can fly without him, and Toothless' response to this was to break it; he doesn't WANT to fly without Hiccup. In the short film, it basically says that they need each other, not just in flying, obviously. In The Hidden World, it's almost like they are trying to show that Hiccup and Toothless' relationship is unbalanced, and that Hiccup is doing him wrong by not allowing him to fly himself, but they've already been through that before.

There are many issues with the characters in the movie as well, INCLUDING Toothless. Almost every character except for Hiccup seems strange and out-of-character. Let's get on with that.
If you watch the TV shows, Riders of Berk + Race To The Edge, all of the dragon riders have major character development, and really shows you who these people are and their personalities. But in The Hidden World, they throw this out the window. Snotlout is "in love," with Hiccup's mother, and disrespects Stoick during the movie as well; Ruffnut is shown to be an absolute idiot, she's majorly dumped down; Astrid just seems like a blank slate compared to everyone else; Tuffnut is... ableist? Every character is very strange, and it really bugs me after watching the shows. The entire thing with Snotlout and Valka is just icky to me, and I really dislike it.

While I'm speaking of characters, let's talk about Toothless and the Light Fury.
In The Hidden World, Toothless is also very strange. He seems to basically throw everything out the window just because he finds a female dragon similar to him. He puts himself, other dragons, and even Hiccup's lives in danger for a dragon that he JUST met, and didn't even really bond with. I have no real issue with the Light Fury, but I really feel like their relationship was majorly rushed and could have been made way better with more GENUINE bonding from them. It makes no sense for Toothless to act that way and practically abandon his best friend just for a dragon he just met.

I really hate the ending as well. It makes no sense.
Hiccup and the riders defeated Drago Bludvist; the man who had a dragon army, king dragon, KILLED Stoick, his FATHER. In the first two films, they basically say "We have dragons, this is who we are, and we won't change," they defend the dragons and their lifestyle against absolutely crazy people, dangerous people, and every time, they defeat them and continue their way of life. But then Grimmel comes along, wanting to just kill Toothless, and oh no! We must hide away all of the dragons we've had for YEARS in the Hidden World... Guess that's all we can do! It's absolutely ridiculous to me how they just... give up. Over GRIMMEL, of all people. Grimmel is a good villain, but he is NOTHING compared to Drago at all. Drago actually KILLED and had actual power. All Grimmel had was scary dragons and darts. He was defeated very easily as well. There was no reason for Berk to just give up. And think about it, Cloudjumper, Valka's companion for over 20-FUCKING-YEARS, just leaves? There's no way EVERY dragon wanted to leave their riders. The ending is so garbage to me and I'll never enjoy it.

The ONLY things I like about the Hidden World: Grimmel, Deathgrippers, the Hidden World, + Eret screentime. That's it. Nothing else.

I'll probably edit this when I have more on my mind to rant about, but until then, this is it. I genuinely just hate The Hidden World. It will always sit at the lowest ranked of the three movies, honestly.
