Gift

24/4/2025 before birthday

Yesterday, I told my mom about the gift I wanted for my birthday. I expressed that I wanted a book—something related to psychology, society, or maybe even body horror. I dislike reading books on a device because I don't want my eyesight to get blurry. So, I decided to stick with physical books. I also realized that I haven't been keeping up with writing about my daily life in a notepad.

My mom has an extensive collection of books. She used to be a bookworm, but she's not as much anymore. She says she hopes to read again, but she's often tired and busy taking care of things. Because of that, she doesn’t have much time to read, and there are some books she hasn’t even touched yet. She keeps all her books in a drawer outside my parents' room, close by. I can tell she enjoys collecting books like manga and psychology-related titles. We share the same interests in book genres. I know my mom also wants to understand people's emotions and life. However, a lot of her collection consists of manga, especially detective stories like "Conan Kindaichi" and "Detective Conan." My mom loves reading detective manga, which is why she has been collecting all the volumes of "Detective Conan" and "Conan Kindaichi." I remember seeing her buy those books chapter by chapter when I was a kid. She would read them in any place where she could relax, whether it was in the bathroom or her room.

Mom also collects books about life, like "Chicken Soup for the Soul" or others aimed at teenagers that can be motivating. Those are the kinds of books I need. She has given me some books from the "Chicken Soup" series that were particularly helpful for me as a teen, along with some healing books. She also owns philosophical books about Chinese topics, which I find interesting, and she said it was okay for me to have them.

My mom suggested that if I want another book, I should ask Cece Aciang to buy the ones I’m interested in. I completely agree, especially since I have my eye on two specific titles: "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" and "1984" by George Orwell. Those are the books I've been wanting to read.

I also mentioned to my mom that I'd like her to get a new phone case for the new phone you’re planning to give me. She currently has an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and she promised that she would give it to me in exchange for getting a new phone for herself. Yes, the iPhone 16, which just released about a week ago. My mom has been eagerly waiting for it to arrive in our country.

I’ve already asked Cece Aciang to pick up the phone case for me. It's a silicone style with the Apple logo on the back, in a light greyish color.

So for my birthday, those are the gifts I’m hoping for: two books and a phone case!
