I decided to do a blog of this, as bulletins only last 10 days.
So something that confuses me on and off when I see it, happening to either myself or others.
When
someone posts something and people question it, the poster normally
just gives a "do your own research" and then no follow up/reply if they
get a reply to such a comment, depending on the post/topic.
So
there are people who get their news/stories from the media and such and
don't question it - that's fine persons choice. There are people who
hear news from media and such and question/believe its a lie which is
also fine, I think its good to question things.
But the one thing
I'll never get is the people who get marked conspiracy theorist or
whatever for believing/saying the opposite of what one side says on how
they say people need to wake up, don't believe the media etc but then
make 0 effort in why they posted something they believe is fake/not true
and expect others to just believe it from the photo or to go and do
your own research with no like "hey I looked into it from here and here -
I recommend you look at these and do your own research". I don't
disagree with the doing your own research but I feel if I want to make a
point I at least say why I believe it, I saw it from such and such or
I've tried it myself etc depending what the topic is.
A kinda
crappy example that I've done would be - proving deleting system32
folders from Windows (at least in 7) isn't true but its a joke/statement
that everyone uses. I always heard it but never gave it much thought,
then one time I was in uni I was needing to reinstall the PC for
troubleshooting purposes, as a test I thought I'd delete system 32
folder and see if the PC booted up anymore, as I was going to reinstall
in anyway, it was basically fresh anyways so no harm in trying. I
deleted system 32, PC ran fine..rebooted the PC..PC booted up. It took
quite amount of folders from the system folders until it refuses to boot
into Windows (I can't remember what the final nail in the coffin was as
this happened back in 2015).
Yet its was and still would be
today used as a joke/statement, a little like the BSOD (Blue screen of
death). The reason it got called this was when people use to get a Blue
screen error it would in most time results someone just reinstalling/not
being able to fix the PC without a reinstall and therefore that's how
it got its name "Blue screen of death". Though the actual error screen
happens to stop the PC from being damaged or doing any further
corruption, and basically tells you what the issue via some codes you
had to look up and even when this is explained - most people just keep
with the joke. In this case its fine, it doesn't mean/affect anything in
this case.
But what happens when its on more serious terms? Like votes being rigged, wars, covid 19 + vax and big corp etc.
Some
people will never question or give it a thought so when they hear
someone saying something that seems to opposite of what they think and
know of something - they laugh. That's fine, some people just either
refuse to listen or other times the person making claims of said things -
doesn't have any believable truth or any hint to get people to think.
It's just a "work it out yourself" but for the most part the people
saying these things, want people to believe and "wake up" and think for
themselves etc, yet don't give any real meaning or reason on why to
believe. In some cases, I fully understand why people laugh and say such
people are stupid/crazy/nazi etc but at the same time I don't always
understand why people believe without a second thought about the media
or presidents etc.
Over here in AU, politicians say why to vote
for them, they get in and then don't really do most of the things they
said on why to vote for them. Yet people keep thinking the voting system
is good/will work. Here we don't have electronic voting systems, we use
paper and pencil.
As long as you go there, get your name ticked
off, I can draw a big cock on mine, submit it and nothing happens. Got 0
way of knowing who voted for who and its with pencil, it can always be
erased - some say use a pen but once it's in a box...you don't know
where it goes you just accept and assume it gets taken and counted and
your vote is fairly and legitimately counted.
It could be, but
how do you personally know? You don't and most people accept that as
normal. Here in AU if you don't vote, you are fined unless you have a
good reason. What's a good reason?, depends who is deciding. My Nanna
years ago had a fall and was in hospital and wasn't able to vote on the
vote day and had to explain via letter or a call - not good enough
reason and got fined. Yet someone can claim their religious views
doesn't allow them to vote - can be accepted by law at least weather it
does/has is another story (I did try but my writing was terrible and was
crap so fair I got rejected).
I personally think its dumb to be
forced to vote. When you turn 18 you have to vote, what happens if you
don't like whos there - just vote or draw a dick, doesn't matter either
way as long as your name is ticked off you "voted". I spoke about this
with an ex's dad who was an older man. His belief was its good you are
forced to vote - that way for example someone who was working - your
working and you gotta vote today, oh no my boss won't let me leave to go
and vote. You do have the option of sending in an early vote via mail,
so you could always do this or you could have a law that stops people
from being able to do such a thing, but then I guess some people would
use that as an excuse on not to vote and how would you prove such a
thing, would the boss be punished?
Myself I personally don't care
who runs the country, they will either do things that don't affect me
or will screw me over and what do I do? Nothing, so either way it
doesn't matter what my vote is either it benefits me in some way or it
impacts me and either way I don't really get a "say" is how I feel
basically, but you "gotta do it". I hate this mindset and forced crap,
they use things like "you get to decide to shape your future"...do I
though? No, because whatever the leader decides is what gets decided and
done (or not done).
It took many years to finally get an 18+
rating system for video games (always had it for movies) so many games
that were "too gory" because the gov here loves to pretend their your
parents for some odd reason, they would get rejected. Even now, we still
get games that get refused or the game must be edited to be allowed in
AU yet 18+ exists, and its fine in other countries.
So basically I
would either import or download (which hurts the devs) to play such
things because why can't I play video games that are not even real, they
don't hurt anyone and I'm not retarded enough to think it's real life
and "want" to do such things in real life. I understand it from a parent
point of view sure, but the gov is to run a country, not hold your hand
and raise you.
So I got a little off topic, but basically things
like this is what made me start to question things, things that didn't
add up or make sense where before I was like eh whatever it is what it
is. While I am still like that as personally myself 1 person ain't gonna
make a change or do shit nor would I have the resources or know how on
how to effectively change something. It's hard enough for someone to
give of enough shit of what I do as it is xD.
So while I wouldn't
say I have a "side" I'm more of the think for yourself and question
things. But same time I understand why people don't/won't as ignorance
is bliss or they are just too busy to give a crap about such things
(which makes sense). But with the media I do have my doubts here and
there depending on the topic.
When the war with Russia and
Ukraine business happened on our side (like many others) were getting
shown how Russia was attacking Ukraine - this automatically makes Russia
bad without a thought. I did have a Denmark friend who was showing me
some of the other news reports and such that never did or will make it
to western tvs - Russia was there but not attacking (at first) - but
because people take 1 side - automatically - oh its Russia propaganda,
it's bots its fake but what you were shown on the media couldn't be at
all could it? People take 1 side and then it's almost their personality.
Now
I'm not saying Putin's a great man or by any means, I don't know the
guy and if I believed just what I was told by my media - He's a piece of
shit. And not that it would make him any better or worse but there was
reports of him donating rice and such to Turkey during the war and
something had happened in Turkey (I don't personally remember what) but
do you think that story made it to our media at all? Nah just the bad
side of things of him so how can you blame people who hate him as if
they went to school with him and got bullied by him. They don't give it a
second thought, because its on the news it MUST be true or because of
another event they have seen (on the media again) why wouldn't it be
true?
This same sorta shit happens when growing up, its either
happened to you or a friend or someone that went to your school. A
rumor/something happens, one person points and shouts and all of a
sudden its the truth and no one ever asks the person themselves, they
just go oh because such and such said "x" that makes them weird. They
will even ask others if its true and the dumb af cycle goes on nor does
the victim get to have any say "oh your just saying that" and while in
some cases its true...many other times it's not true but it doesn't
matter they don't get to prove or say shit.
So the main reason I
wrote this is, the start of this post happened today. It was a YouTube
post about the CEO of Nestlé. The photo simply said that the CEO (no
full name or anything) saying back in 2017 that he believes humans
shouldn't have free access to water and should cost or something along
those lines. I'm like hm I've never heard of the guy myself, that's
weird. So I did a little google search to find out his name - found out
his name. Googled that + searched what the photo was claiming. I found a
page from Nestlé themselves and they claimed people said this due to a
2005 interview but it wasn't true/taken out of context. So just that
itself gives me "hey people say this, due to this but it's not true". So
I asked the OP where was the video/source for this claim. And I got a
"do your own research its out there". I'm like ok I did very little but
it pointed me to say why such things existed and that the claim was
false. So I wanted to know the side that was claiming it was true so I
could look into why they thought that, do some more digging and make up
my own mind who I thought was in the right.
TLDR: When someone questions something of a poster and the poster straight up tells them to fuck off and look into it themselves - why are they posting it, whats the point if they don't want to educate/get people to think/get people to see their point of view etc.

This is a great post and involves a lot of really good points. Unfortunately it's entirely modern news, tiktok and twitters fault.
There's no denying how rampant misinformation was pre tiktok, but the moment everyone was online during the pandemic a lot more people got exposed to the spread of bait clicking. Basically to say, if one person believes it odds are they can get another person to believe it by making it as click bait as possible or appeal to what they want to hear.
Leading to people who are okay with following a crowd not doing any research and just saying things blindly / expecting to be believed without any evidence.
If I ever find someone talking about anything serious or anything In general I always ask for a source, for an actual way of confirmation. Its unfortunately just the world we live in right now, all it takes is doing your own research and not allowing the herd around you.
I also need to get my PC fixed so I can get back on msn(escargot) I miss it

Thanks for taking the time to reach that novel haha no one else has replied so I really appreciate you taking the time to at least read and comment as well, means alot.
Yeah I think the more platforms we got the easier/more it was to spread bs but in theory that should mean it should of also been easier to provided sources and such.
I also sometimes don't/can't believe what is being said/shown it's like damn let me make sure this all adds up!
But yeah if someone isn't really willing to prove/help me see from their point of view, I don't give a shit 99% of the time and move on just like they had with a reply like that.
