Outside of the College Party Scene

As some of you know, I’m a college freshman. And I am also a commuter student, meaning I drive to and from school every day. Being a commuter, I’m obviously left out of certain events, meaning I either don’t want to wait at school for the event to start, or I simply don’t want to drive back to the school for it. It has affected my social life, of course, but I’m actually quite content with how many people I met and the friendships I’ve made. The only thing commuting has bummed me out about is...parties.

Now, this isn’t to say I’m a party animal and I want to go to every single one. I am in no way, shape, or form built for the party scene. However, I would’ve loved to experience even just one. There are a few things that held me back, such as my mom, my comfort zone, and the stories I’ve heard about the parties in my town. Just the other day, a new friend of mine told me about how someone slipped something in his drink. #Terrifying. He was okay, thankfully. It was a party of a bunch of people who knew him and wouldn’t let anything happen. My city also has a huge gun issue, probably one of the worst. My biggest fear of going is just not leaving. It all just seems so scary.

It isn’t as though this has disappointed me so greatly that I can’t function. It’s not something I’ll regret when I’m older either. It’s just one of those things that are just, “Maybe it would’ve been nice to have that experience.” One of the goals I want to accomplish by the end of my college career is to throw my own party. It’ll be safe, there won’t be a ton of alcohol, and it’ll be fun. Maybe what I’m describing is a friendly function. Anyhow, that’s just a little rant about that.

I partied a lot at uni, and honestly, I am glad I did because that was what I wished to do at the time.

From what you are saying, I think sleepovers seem to be a better match for you than a party. How strict is your mom? You could invite a few friends over, prepare a playlist, and some fun sleepover activities! There is nothing better than falling asleep with your friends late at night, wrapped in the blankets on the floor, and then getting ready together for classes the next morning!

Now writing this down, I prefer that over parties too. Especially when the girl I had a crush on would come over, and borrow my clothes the next day. We would exchange clothes and I would go dressed like her, and her dressed like me (we had very opposite aesthetics, I was super colorful and she wore all black). Good times <3

You're actually so right now that I think about it. I feel like I should've thought of this lol. But I will probably bring it up to my mom, thank you!
