In a Cruel and unrelentless World, the need to find Beauty is even more pressing of a task. How many people’s lives could be changed or even saved, if only they could find that Beacon of light that leads to a Future filled with Hope, Smiles, and Kindness. This quest to find Hope and Kindness is not always easy if you are in -deep, but it is not impossible. Sometimes you must seek out professionals that can shine some light your way. Other times, you just need to take a deep breath and mentally ground yourself before taking another step.
So what is Grounding you ask?
“Grounding yourself means:
• Consciously connecting yourself to the earth.
• Focusing on your body being connected to the earth.
• Calming or slowing down emotions.
• Being mindful of the present moment.
• Aligning with your values and purpose.
• Gathering your energy and rooting it back into the present moment”. (Grounding Definition via Copilot answer)
While researching this topic, I came across a well written article that teaches you how to Ground yourself. The article is named “21 Grounding Techniques To Try The Next Time You Feel Stressed Out”
Sarah suggests 10 physical grounding techniques that include
1. Move your body
2. Try breathwork
3. Get outside
4. Move locations
5. Try the 5-4-3 method
6. Eat or drink something
7. Sing
8. Do a body scan
9. Take a bath or shower
10. Try earthing
For me personally, I have utilized the move locations strategy, eating comfort foods, listening and singing to my favorite songs, and taking a bubble bath. I have also done a complete news and social media fast. This seems to help tremendously. Humans weren’t created to endure that much Hatred and Depressive topics. Our system can’t handle it all at once. We are systematically damaging our Psyches by ingesting it all. My damage got so bad that I even changed my social media page feeds so that I don’t see as many depressing feeds. These tactics seem to work well for me. However, when I experienced my first panic attack, I was told to make a calming space for myself since I couldn’t change the triggers because they were out of my control. So, I built a she corner on my side of the room. Since Christmas items bring me comfort, I put up some Christmas lights and some small décor that I keep up year-round.
Create a space that has all the things that make you happy. In other terms, create a Happy zone for yourself. whether it be in your heard or in real life. Make this space as inviting as you can. Surround the space with lighting that is calming, scents that are comforting to you, and get some wall art or figurines, plushies are also a great addition, maybe even a comfy bed or sofa with plenty of soft blankets, just don’t forget that you need to feed your souls as well. Start by making a playlist of your favorite songs, favorite videos that make you smile or laugh, ambiance videos with soft instrumentals works for me, and if you are a reader add some audio books as well. I have found that these things help me when I am exhausted from the day-to-day depressive news stories and life itself. This space is all about you. Make it a personal safe- haven. Everyone needs a place that feels like a warm hug. You will see a huge difference in your mood and physical self if you do these things.
