What nobody talks about [Emo Isn't Cool + Toxic Culture]

Just a thought based on my own experience.

Yourscenestillsucks: Problems with the Modern Scene

Emo isn't cool.

First topic of the series! Hey guys, this is a semi personal project that others can read into. I struggle with finding good representation of  how to set good examples in the scene whilst spreading awareness to the very legitimate issues being observed in today's day and age. The toxicity never left us, merely evolved into other problems. If you are fed up with the messiness- welcome to where your frustrations are heard! This is just a small project so any advice and suggestions to help guide some more posts are appreciated.

Now lets talk business- we are currently in the year 2025, whether we want to believe it or not (sadly) the way we socialize online is different than 15+ years ago. Blogging is out, short form videos are in. Tik Tok, Instagram, and other community based apps give us the connection to others we relate to, but is it really about just building a community? Yes and no- The truth is that most fashionable creators you follow are just that- a fashion page that you use to fuel this aesthetic or style that you enjoy. Scene or Emo, it's not just an outfit and makeup style you can put on and call your own. Within its own rights, there are beliefs and rules tied to every subculture. Represent their ideologies along with expressing your own individuality, we are not cookie cutter personalities. I know that seems overwhelming but dedication and effort eventually pays off. Speaking from 8 years of experience, I still educate myself and advocate- just take it piece by piece.

Internet trends are also extremely rampant in todays day and age, use this as a reminder that trends are unhealthy for you, us as a society, and unethical. It is okay to explore your identity, but do not expect to conform to the ideal status of what the internet deems socially acceptable. Remember that effort is required, take pride in your progress. Learn, evolve, and become the representation you want in the world.

Closing off the first post, whoever you are reading this, take this minute to listen to your favorite song or album, its worth the time to enjoy some music. Signing off for now! Tune in later

I REAAALLY AGREEE RAHHH i feel like there was a change from scenes/subcultures being percieved as communities to just be taken in as aesthetics now,, not even the principles or values from these communities specially over the internet, local scene is much much more undervalued now,, making it rlly loose depth, itz a sad thing rlly but it is amazing seeing someone keeping it real!! <3

Im glad you can understand! It's hard to observe but It's also a good reminder of the morals and values I have- I hope this eventually helps others move in the same direction too eeeeek!

This is so true guys, did you know back then being called "emo" as a goth was a huge insult, and we were "enemies" lol.

My friends talk about this too - how now it's all become just being "alternative" and it's all mixed up in one big mesh, and it's all perceived as being emo anyway. I have to say, we were super intransigent back then - as though you couldn't like and enjoy different things at the same time (even if just different metal subgenres, depending on the genre). You were almost seen as a traitor or a poser.

Anyways, "poser" was the biggest insult anyone could throw at you. xd

But yeah, I remember it being very one-dimensional, very "us and them".. I definitely enjoy having grown out of that silly mindset. But I also regard it with a bit of sadness how everything has become one melting pot of mainly "aesthetics".

I stopped dressing up goth around 2010 because of the attention it was getting me. Went more into a grunge style until 2013 ish. I wanted to be "normal" so bad but guess what, now I know that will never happen, because changing your aesthetics doesn't change your character.

i.e. I'm still a dark weirdo to most environments
