Just a thought based on my own experience.

Yourscenestillsucks: Problems with the Modern Scene
This is so true guys, did you know back then being called "emo" as a goth was a huge insult, and we were "enemies" lol.
My friends talk about this too - how now it's all become just being "alternative" and it's all mixed up in one big mesh, and it's all perceived as being emo anyway. I have to say, we were super intransigent back then - as though you couldn't like and enjoy different things at the same time (even if just different metal subgenres, depending on the genre). You were almost seen as a traitor or a poser.
Anyways, "poser" was the biggest insult anyone could throw at you. xd
But yeah, I remember it being very one-dimensional, very "us and them".. I definitely enjoy having grown out of that silly mindset. But I also regard it with a bit of sadness how everything has become one melting pot of mainly "aesthetics".
I stopped dressing up goth around 2010 because of the attention it was getting me. Went more into a grunge style until 2013 ish. I wanted to be "normal" so bad but guess what, now I know that will never happen, because changing your aesthetics doesn't change your character.
i.e. I'm still a dark weirdo to most environments

I REAAALLY AGREEE RAHHH i feel like there was a change from scenes/subcultures being percieved as communities to just be taken in as aesthetics now,, not even the principles or values from these communities specially over the internet, local scene is much much more undervalued now,, making it rlly loose depth, itz a sad thing rlly but it is amazing seeing someone keeping it real!! <3
Im glad you can understand! It's hard to observe but It's also a good reminder of the morals and values I have- I hope this eventually helps others move in the same direction too eeeeek!
