saw a lil debate on pinterest where someone was asking if they can still be punk without listening to punk music, and a lot of the replies said you need to listen to punk music to be condsidered punk because it's a music subculture.. and I am like.. nooo?? you literally don't? if you share the same ideologies of punk, you ARE punk. period. Telling people they NEED to listen to the music to be seen as punk, goes against what it means to be punk LOL
punk is about fighting against unjust systems, making a difference, and being who you are, being kind. where the hell does music come into that?? lmao or at least the requirement of music that justifies if u are punk or not.
Punk as a genre of music definitely has roots in the philosophy, but it's not a requirement to BE Punk. 💜

I disagree, if you do any research you will learn that punk (music) is older than punk (movement/ideology). Punk has always been a music based subculture. Saying you don't have to listen to punk music to be a part of the subculture is just factually incorrect, it's not "gatekeeping" it's just a basic rule. It's the same as if I said I was goth or emo because I dress or act a certain way but didn't listen to goth or emo music. If it's a music based subculture, you have to listen to the music to be in the subculture.

Don't know to much about it but honestly I somewhat agree, being punk was always about the lifestyle and ideology :) I feel like people online never know what their talking about sometimes lol
That's valid! and yeah internet culture I have found loves to gatekeep things or force them into categories when there was no category to begin with XD ty for validating me teehee, and omg your profile is so cool! I love all the colours. I like how it's saturated but not eye hurty (✿◠‿◠)
