"sometimes the curtains are just blue"

people aren't reading as much as they used to, which is okay!! until we see how this starts showing up in our society. reading itself doesn't entirely make up the concept of education, but reading is an integral part of education, and before the internet, reading was a great way to learn about things you didn't know before (encyclopedias, magazines such as national geographic, etc.) the way modern social media platforms are formatted, such as tiktok, instagram reels, fb and yt shorts are cutting our attention spans insanely short, which could be why many people today don't read. it's when this lack of the ability to make in-depth analyses starts affecting our language, and the way we process information around us is when this begins to become a problem. "i ain't reading allat" and "sometimes the curtains are just blue" are some, and especially the second saying, are things that shake me down to the core when i hear people saying it. i understand if people don't like school, but it matters!! there is no point in saying "well we have the internet to teach us now" when you do not even know how to properly use the internet as an educational tool (and really only use it for "doomscrolling" and non-educational purposes anyway) because you'll likely end up being misinformed from skimming through what you didn't notice was a satirical article. stay educated so that ignorance doesn't take over!!

One thing that really pisses me off about people saying "sometimes the curtains are just blue" is how much our generation thinks that writing is just a tool and that writers don't actually think that hard when writing something. Makes me really sad when students make fun of a literature teacher that is just trying to make them understand the meaning behind the words. (i hope this makes sense english isn't my first language)

Exactly!! No worries, your English is amazing I understood perfectly. Maybe it might be because people aren't reading literature as much as we used to, but especially when people joke about English teachers "reading into" everything, they do that because it's their job!! They worked for a bachelor's degree or higher to be able to properly analyze texts, and it saddens me when people undermine all the work into them being an "over thinker".

Yesss!! Like OFCC your LANGUAGE teacher that has a job that CONSISTS in analyse texts is going to "read too much into" everything. Thats what they do, and that's what they are trying to teach you. And honestly i dont even think u need to read a lot to comprehend that (wish i read more..) it's just logic

Of course!! I think a lot of people just need to use their brains sometimes because many just lack a good amount of common sense to understand that things do have a deeper meaning.
