Shipping communities and fandoms suck now

Is it just me or ever since 2019-2021ish, fandoms and fandom culture has gone downhill rapidly.

I've seen so many people attack ships because "they're not cannon" or because the characters "had no romantic scenes" in the game/tv show. There's so much policing of who and who can not be shipped (and of course when I say this, I'm not including pro-shippers, we should of course police them, I'm talking about acceptable ships)

There's also a lot of people I've seen get attacked and have their comments filled with hatred over fanfiction not catering to specific people's headcannons, a ton of people using AI to create stories instead of writing them themselves, and cosplayers getting a ton of negative comments for posting their cosplays of a character that has a different body type than them (I'm not just talking about plus size cosplayers, I've also seen cosplayers with larger chests get accused of seggsualizing characters simply by cosplaying them)

Maybe this has always been a part of fandom spaces, but I don't remember running into it nearly as much when I was younger. We need to go back to that era where someone could just edit Rapunzel and Mavis together to the song 1000 years and everyone was just like "you know what? I get it"

I beg, bring fandoms spaces back to the weird kids who just roll with ish! Lol.
