My old Beatles Cassettes!!!

Welcome to my first proper blog!!

Now, something you need to know about me is that I'm a proper Beatles-head. I have their entire discography on vinyl, a few of their CDs, and notably their canon catalogue of albums on Cassette!! You see, around 1987, the engineers at Abbey Road Studios were remastering all of the old Beatles songs and albums so they were fit for CD and Cassette, and they came out with a boxset of every Beatles album on Cassette!!
Every Beatles Album in a cassette box-set.

Now, there's also this nifty little website called Discogs!! This website allows you to go to every album, single, CD, cassette, vinyl, and what-have-you ever made, and you can sell or buy whatever ones you'd like!! A little feature is the "Collection" feature, where you can

Tutorial on how to Collection on Discogs

Discogs has been my best friend over the last few months, directing me how to waste WAY too much money the right way (buying physical media). So, you know how I mentioned the "buy and sell" part of Discogs? It's not just a collection tracker, but a marketplace for you to sell or buy whatever specific edition of any album or single or whatever else you want.

So, I saw a person selling that boxset for the cassettes, and everything was still in its original plastic, factory sealed an' all. Eventually I picked it up for the low low very cheap low price of four-hundred and sixty-six dollars (and 40 cents!) which, admittedly, was a bit of a moronic and irresponsible financial choice, however compared for how they're selling now (upwards of $1,000) it was an absolute bargain!!

They arrived not too long ago and the carrier that delivered them actually delivered to the wrong address (which did get my heart thumping) but the guy who lived there drove to my house and dropped it off 😅. I unpacked it, and it's been sittin' pretty on my bookshelf for the past month and a half.

Cut forward to today, and after communicating with an other-worldly alien through a crystal ball, I was encouraged to crack one open, that one being Abbey Road.

(sorry for the massive photo, I couldn't figure out how to scale it down)

So, I gave it a listen, and it started to go along decently well!! It was a little warped, and the music sounded a little warbly but you could still tell what it was, and it wasn't too bad!!

I recorded it all to my computer, and it sounded alright (notably, Come Together and Here Comes the Sun's positions were switched), but when it was time to flip to Side 2, a disaster struck. I was part way through listening to Come Together, and then all of a sudden the tape got caught on the tape head and started to get crushed and jumbled up. It started looking that that one Bruno Mars music video where he takes a tape and turns it into drawings and it looks like spaghetti

So, unfortunately, after performing surgery on the tape to try and get it unstuck from the player, I had to pack it away, but it was still a nifty experience!! I just bought the Minecraft Albums on Cassette and I can't wait for them to arrive!!

Well, that's all I have for now. The pope died whilst I was making this, which was interesting. Have a great evening, folks.
