Safe As Milk - Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band review

Yeah the album name basically sums up the entire record, if you're going into this expecting something like Trout Mask Replica, you're gonna be VERY disappointed. That's not to say that this is a bad album, I'd actually say it's damn good, but it's really not anything special. It's basically just a very standard 50s blues album, if you heard any blues song before you'll already know how all the songs sound like, except maybe Electricity and I'm Glad. But I like the blues, so it's really not an issue for me personally, and I will say that this album does a pretty solid job at demonstrating Captain Beefheart's skill as a vocalist. I mean that could be because I think of Trout Mask Replica whenever he's mentioned but either way he's a good singer. Overall I'd say that this is a pretty basic album that can get repetitive at times but is still good either way, just don't expect some crazy avant-garde shit to be present cos you'll just get some blue balls and lube put to waste.
