I'm conflicted about 4Chan being gone

For those out of the loop, 4Chan got hacked by a group called Soyjack Party, the hackers leaked the moderators's IP Address, email, passwords, the list goes on. The site is currently gone and some think it may never recover from this attack, after all, the site is known for its anonymity, and apparently it isn't as secure as we thought.

For me, 4Chan is a remnant of the old web that we at Spacehey value so much, a place for people to talk about their interests and share things with each other, with no ads and corporations stealing our data. A lot of the internet culture came from 4Chan, our most iconic memes like Pepe, Rickroll, Rage Comics, etc. originated from there, and the site was basically Anonymous breeding ground.

Unfortunately, 4Chan became a cesspool for the most disgusting people, pedophiles, incels and nazis occupied half of the site. I will never forgive them for Gamergate and originating the alt-right.

In the end, I think that 4Chan shows how the old internet was a much more lively and fun environment compared to our modern social media. If we ever want to keep the internet a healthy place, we can adopt some of 4Chan's philosophy, while being cautious of its dangers due to lack of moderation.

i wish i could have been on the internet in the 2000s but i didnt get on until like 2011-2012. i mean 4chan hasnt been the same for a long time but it was still a bastion of the older internet era that is now basically gone with the wind. i was able to experience it some in the early 2010s but i just wished it could have stuck around longer. the internet we are left with is extremely regulated , moderated , filled with ads , people who are dumb as shit , and extremely centralized. ahhhh i have nostalgia for a place i hardly remember now. rip 4chan
