EDIT: @ mods, i 100% welcome comments and discussion from you (and would actually appreciate it). what are your opinions on a strike system? how do you think the report system could be improved, since youre the ones who have to deal with it? do you have any other ideas on how to make spacehey better?
im going to start off by saying this is in no way an attempt to throw shade at the mods. there are just not enough of you for a website as populated as this and you all do your best as volunteers <3
the report system straight up sucks. for mods and regular users. mods ONLY see what you put in your report (unless you directly report a comment or blog). there is no link to the profile being reported, which is why screenshots are needed. this is ridiculous imo, because 1) its not difficult but its tedious to screenshot evidence and 2) its just... not really intuitive
the report system could be improved with a dropdown menu of report reasons (harassment, child endangerment, hate speech, etc), as well as a comment section to elaborate, and better ui for the mods. seriously, at the very least make it so theres a link to the profile being reported. if a mod needs to post an entire flowchart on how to report properly so it doesnt get closed without investigation, the system is broken
WE NEED CLEARER RULES.
people keep getting suspended out of nowhere. most of the time, support emails asking why go unanswered. we shouldnt have to take it to reddit or mods' personal emails to find out what happened. and the rules just arent clear enough in most cases to understand why a ban happened. as an example, how come gorey/bloody album covers & music videos are allowed on profile, but artistic photos of bones/roadkill/actual art get you suspended? is it underreporting or bias or both?
what constitutes as hatespeech? ive seen so many "opinions" here on why women or jews are evil for example which get to stay up, but other people get banned for saying things like "people with paraphilic disorders deserve to get help". underreporting? bias? both?
(btw an, its ridiculous that you suspended that person after your mods agreed that they didnt break any rules. supposedly because their display name was "future corpse"? im pretty sure it was actually just because you didnt want to deal with the situation anymore because ive seen countless profiles with a stamp that says exactly that. future corpse. are you going to suspend all of them, too? in what way, exactly, did that display name break any rules? genuinely)
now i understand getting banned for report spamming. but why should you get suspended for false reporting somebody? wouldnt you rather people report someone so you can investigate the issue instead of just ignoring it? in case something really is happening there? i think it would be more productive to have a conversation with the person who made the report. but maybe thats just me ๐คทโโ๏ธ
WE NEED A WARNING SYSTEM.
especially if youre not going to make it obvious why a ban happened. make it a "3 strikes and youre out" deal for lesser infractions. first warning youre locked out of your account for 24 hours. second warning, a week. after that, permaban. i feel like that would be easy to implement. lots of sites have that
again, no shade to the mods. although the system sucks and it feels like mods' personal bias get in the way sometimes, the fault is with an. he runs the site, he needs to be transparent about how its run. he needs to be clear with his mods and the entire userbase about what is and isnt allowed. yes, this is a passion project that hes working on in his free time. i know hes busy with life and all. but maybe he shouldnt be running a site of this scale by himself or at all then, if he cant keep up with it. i love spacehey. i dont want it to continue to decline and i dont want to see friends getting banned over nothing
no hate to an either but spacehey is your responsibility dude. expand your mod team, communicate more effectively, and/or consider partnering with someone who can be here when you cant
this is not a place to hate on an or the mods (or any other users for that matter). critique is cool, harassment and general assholery is not ^_^

Hi, a bit out of place but I've wanted to ask what do you think about the pole the mods are doing (the one deciding which one of the mods can unban people). Feel free not to answer, I just thought about this blog when I saw it.
i think all the mods should be able to unban people

I think my biggest issue is some rules being "hidden" - like yes, they're public, but it's not the user's responsibility to check the mods' blogs. For example this entry:
https://blog.spacehey.com/entry?id=1104734
Maybe not the best example but with what unfolded recently it's not that obvious...

yup, thats what i mean when i say an needs to make the rules more in-depth and concrete. it is sooo crazy that we have to ASK what's acceptable because there's a lot of grey area, we should just be able to go to the rules page and know immediately whether something breaks the rules or not

I barely got spacehey, and I keep seeing this brought up as an issue. I hope it gets resolved because spacehey is the only social media that I feel comfortable in (because it doesn't overwhelm me) at the moment ^^;
at the end of the day spacehey is still 100% usable. you just need to curate your own space and experience ^_^ and use common sense when posting (no gore, slurs, hatespeech, etc)

Well said. Not having a strike system sucks

I absolutely agree with you, especially with the single maintenance of the site.. There should be a correct mod team that does the job well since this is a social media and pretty much worldwide. To keep it up a decent moderation would be appreciated. I know it could be hard.. hell, i canโt even maintain a moderate discord server on my own, but a heads up was highly recommended especially for the upcoming settings and maybe fame(?)

People romanticize the old internet. Not realizing it wasn't curated as hard.

Hell, yea. After settled her for more than a month...
At first I thought this side is nostalgic and a perfect website for us until I saw the gore jumpscare of a user's profile...
We need to BOND TOGETHER!

I agree with a lot of points you made. I do think there needs to be something more streamlined for the staff to easily get through the reports. I have seen staff disagree with each other on rules, so I imagine there's a lot of work to be done there. It's one thing to disagree on a very minut and up to interpretation. But they seem to disagree on some pretty baseline things of what should and shouldn't be allowed.
I disagree on the 3 strike rule though. Running a small scale, I think something like an automated email with the reason of banning would work. Sure it's not public but eventually word will get out about what people are getting banned for and try to avoid it.
is there a specific reason you disagree with the three strikes? genuine question

I agree with most of the topics you are saying, granted we are using this app to relive the 2000s experience for the most part, so rules on topics have been interesting, not that hate speech should be associated with free speech, but this is the internet, you will always hear things that are questionable.
my inner owner has struggled with this before so I have sympathy for what they already do, Though there is always potential for improvements!
Also as someone thatโs had to run a large group before, the โ3 strike ruleโ is not as great as it may sound, to keep track of this number of people (along with the fact they could make alt accounts, hack, and etc,,) simply put the odds are not in favor. While it may suck to be banned without knowing, they shouldnโt be expected to babysit this place simply cause the people are degenerateโs (I mean this for the ones that would get banned, get a chance, inevitably they will break the rules again, then continue to cry about it even when they where in the wrong)
Sry for the rant
