Somewhere over the past few years, the concept of paranormal investigating has changed for a lot of today's investigators. And it's not for the better. The lines have been blurred between urban exploration and paranormal investigating.
What most teams or investigators now consider "paranormal investigating" is nothing more than urban exploration.
What do I mean? Well to most of us veteran paranormal investigators, paranormal investigating means actually stopping in a room or location for several minutes and attempt to communicate with whatever may be there. It's not uncommon to stay in one room or place for several minutes.
But to most of today's investigators, paranormal investigating means continually walking - they don't stop anywhere. Yea they may have their cameras and recorders running. And they may ask questions as they are walking; but they don't settle down, stop and put forth an honest effort in trying to communicate with the entities that may be present. They just keep walking and exploring the building. And by doing so, they are losing out on so much possibility of capturing evidence.
And I am currently watching a YouTube video of a very well known paranormal team doing just that. They are in a great location - but they have not stopped one time to do an EVP session or try to communicate with anyone....they are just continually walking.
I'm not against urban exploration. In fact I love old abandoned buildings. But urban exploration and paranormal investigating are two different things. If you call yourself a paranormal investigator, then take the time to actually investigate. You are doing the paranormal field a great disservice by not doing so.
