not an avid horror reader but.. this book def shook me to the core (hyperbole, i am sorry)
mexican gothic - silvia moreno-garcia, published in 2020.
synopsis: naomi receives a frantic, urgent letter sputtering nonsense and/or madness from her newly-wed cousin about her husband attempting to murder her, so her dad decides to send naomi to find out the truth behind the letter.
had read it a while back on a car ride to a relative's house, all while a storm was happening, so it all enhanced the reading experience. the plot has an enough amount of suspense to make you sit on the edge of your chair yet not too much to make you feel overwhelmed. i went into this book blindly and it made me unable to sleep at night, so it is clearly a 10/10. there's a small, tiny amount of romance in the book, just how i like it. ending isn't too open nor is it a cliffhanger of sorts, but it's pretty much what i would call a cozy happy ending :D hiks i wish they did make the adaptation... hulu i hate you
