Dev Log - Day 1: Terminal Awakening

Starting My Journey as a Developer in the World of Linux

Like many beginners, I am starting my journey in the world of programming and software development. Over the past few months, I have decided to dive deeper into Linux, a system that, besides being a pillar in the development world, also represents freedom and flexibility. In this post, I share my first experiences and learnings with Ubuntu and the Linux ecosystem—an enriching journey that, although challenging, has been incredibly rewarding.

Currently, I am using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, one of the most well-known and stable distributions. I chose this distribution because of its popularity and long-term support, which is essential for anyone starting to learn. For the graphical environment, I opted for XFCE, a lightweight, efficient, and highly customizable desktop that provides a great experience, even on older or resource-limited machines.

What attracts me most to Ubuntu is its accessibility. The system has a vast software repository, rich documentation, and a large community of users willing to help. Moreover, Ubuntu makes life easier for those wanting to learn programming, with native support for various languages such as Python, C, and Shell scripting. As a beginner, this has been crucial to my development.

In the coming months, my goal is to deepen my knowledge of the tools Linux provides, including advanced terminal usage, task automation with Shell scripting, and, of course, diving into languages like Python. One of my objectives is to learn how to build and manage development environments efficiently, something Linux makes significantly easier.

Additionally, I am considering testing other distributions, such as Fedora and Arch Linux, to better understand the differences between the various options that the Linux world offers. The idea is to become more fluent in the ecosystem and figure out which distribution best suits my needs as my development journey progresses.
