Scott pilgrim merch is ass

It's my bi monthly (every 2 months) Spacehey check in and since I'm here I wanna talk about Scott Pilgrim merch. Scott Pilgrim is a very odd franchise to me cos despite the fact it's this massive thing that spans almost every medium most of the merch for it is complete ass. 

Specifically the figures look terrible, most of them are made with visibly poor quality materials, almost all of them have bad looking designs which I'll go in to in a little more depth later. A lot of them are action figures which I personally don't like cos they always have ugly ball joints which makes it look worse sitting on your desk or shelf at least Imo.

Look at this fucking figure by Mezco, this shit looks terrible, why does Scott have weird old person teeth lol. It's hard to see properly in this image but in other images of the figure you can see that the torso and legs are connected in a really weird way that put a noticeable gap between them, you can sort of see it here but it's more pronounced in other images of the figure. There's another version of this figure where he has a green shirt and a different head mold which somehow looks worse than this one.  


These two are by ISH Toys and they are definitely better than the Mezco ones, my biggest issues with these are the ugly arm hinges (mainly noticeable on Scott). I also think the faces look off, from the front they look good and it looks like the comic but from the side they look like Whos (from the grinch) cos they have weirdly pointed mouths and noses which makes them look really weird, these are a massive step up but they still look pretty cheap and I think we could get a lot better figures.      


This is one of the most recent figures, if I remember correctly it came out a few months after Takes Off came out. It's made by Mondo but it's not very mondo cool. I really don't like this design with these very bottom heavy limbs, I think they just look weird, I understand that it's suppose to be stylized but I just don't think it looks good. it reminds me of those designer figures if you know what I'm talking about you'll probably understand idk. it's also insanely big, it's 38cm tall which is crazy, who wants a figure that big bro, not fucking me. I forgot to talk about the head and I don't wanna rewrite this to fit it in so whatever I'll do it now, the hair I think looks decent but the face has the same issue as the ISH one, I also think the eyebrows are too high up compared to the ISH one.

I wanna take a break and talk about one I think is pretty great, this one is also from Mondo and I think it's probably the closest we're gonna get to a perfect figure for Ramona (for some reason they only made Ramona in this style which pisses me off), It looks like a nice material, the hair looks great, I love most of it. My main critique is her face, the mouth makes it look really off to me, I really can't explain it it just looks really off, it kind of looks like if scott pilgrim was animated by a more generic company like illumination or something. 

Youtooz has Just come out with a line of Scott pilgrim figures that u can pre-order, I'm just not a fan of the youtooz style, the chibi/bobblehead thing just doesn't appeal to me, it's just not really my thing these days. I actually own a Youtooz (I bought it when I was like 14 or 15) and so I know that the material they use for the skin looks pretty ass in person, I also think Scott's face looks weird here, with all of these figures I've talked about I think most of them have failed to capture Scotts personality, he's a massive idiot who is always clueless, that's what makes you like him despite the fact he clearly sucks as a guy. But none of these really capture that and I think that really blows. Ramona looks decent for a Youtooz but I think she is way too pale. Matthew looks very good I don't really have a lot to say about him.


I think the thing that bothers me about there being a lack of good scott pilgrim figures is I know it's possible to make good ones.Look at these figures, these are a line of figures called Peach Riot, This style could be so easily applied to the Scott Pilgrim cast it's insane that it hasn't already happened. I own a few of these figures and they look great and their decent material. If this random brand can make great figures that look way more like the Scott Pilgrim comics than any of the merch we've had from the franchise why can't we get figures like these for Scott Pilgrim which is a large franchise with a big audience and people who want to buy shit. It's just really fucking annoying to me
