My First Game on Every Console I've Ever Played

So, I'm writing this blog because I've always dreamed of putting the first games I played on each console into an ordered list.

I haven’t played on every console ever made, and I left some out because I don’t have much history with them — like the Atari or the Master System. I just hope it turns out cool and that whoever reads it enjoys it and feels inspired to make a list of their own

Super Mario Bros (NES)

Everyone who has ever played on an NES or even an NES emulator has played this game. I remember I could never beat it. It was a really hard game. I could only beat it after many years, as an adult.

Super Mario World (SNES)

Yes, Mario games were really the biggest part of my history with retro games. And this game is just immortal, man. Even nowadays, it’s still alive. Fun fact: the first night I didn’t sleep was because i was playing this game. I remember that day like it was yesterday!

Sonic The Hedgehog (Mega drive)

I was really a Mario kid, but that didn’t stop me from appreciating the Sonic games. The first game I ever played on the Mega Drive was Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I remember vibing to the Chemical Plant Zone music — such a good OST.

Mario 64 (Nintendo 64)

Yup, another Mario game, but it’s impossible to talk about the N64 without mentioning Mario 64. This game launched with the N64, so it makes total sense. I don’t think I need to say much, this game is just incredible. (Do you know how to unlock Luigi?)

Toy Story 2 (PS1)

I was just a little kid when I saw my older brother playing this, and I immediately said, 'I WANNA PLAY IT! I WANNA PLAY IT! IT'S TOY STORY!' (It was really popular back in those days.) it was a great PS1 game, though I feel like it hasn’t aged all that well.

Lego Batman (PS2)

Ok, this game is perfect in every aspect, the puzzles, the combat, and the freaking AWESOME co-op mode. When my mom gave me my PS2 (which was also my first console), I was paralyzed. Everyone loves Batman. Everyone loves LEGO, so...?

Call Of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3)

Here we are in a troubled phase of my life. The lean times have come. Around 2007-2012, I was poorer than most people. A video game from that generation wasn’t in the budget for many people in my country, so it was common for kids to go to a sort of "gaming house." You'd pay and could play for a set amount of time determined by the owner. This allowed me to experience many games from that generation without owning a console. And Black Ops 2 was my first PS3 game. Not to brag, but I was good. In local multiplayer, I’d beat all my friends, and sometimes the owner would give me extra free time for being somewhat skilled at the game. I believe this game may not have been the first for many people, but it’s definitely one of the most memorable games from that era.

HALO 3 (Xbox 360)

I don’t have much to say. The HALO games are fantastic, but I’m not the most dedicated fan. Still, I had a lot of fun with it—the game mechanics and multiplayer are really cool. If you’re a HALO fan and read this blog, you might be offended by my indifference toward the game. But hey, I really do like HALO, okay?

New Super Mario Bros Wii (Nintendo Wii)

When I was a kid, I really wanted a Wii, specifically because of this game. To this day, I still think it's the Mario game with the best power-ups ever created. The multiplayer is also the best, in my opinion. After a while, I got a computer, and thanks to emulation, I was finally able to appreciate this masterpiece (though configuring Wii controls on an emulator is a nightmare—it left me traumatized).

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (WII U)

Alright, it’s kind of sad that my first Wii U game wasn’t even a Wii U exclusive. But that doesn’t make it any less fun. Honestly, I’m not the biggest Zelda fan—I just appreciate the games. And I don’t have much to say about this one either. The verdict is: I liked it.

Watch Dogs (PS4)

A controversial game. Nobody I've ever met said they liked it. But back when I played it, it felt like the most realistic thing in the world. The hacking mechanics for objects and people also seemed brilliant at the time, though I don’t think the game has aged very well.

Gears Of War 4 (Xbox One)

Seriously, I loved this game. Because of it, I got interested in the older titles and ended up playing every other Gears of War—except for the spin-off. Gears of War is a simple game: you run, you shoot, then you run and shoot some more... But that’s exactly what makes it perfect!

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe (Switch)

If you've been reading from the beginning, you know I was a kid fascinated by Mario games. I've played every Mario Kart, and this was the first game I wanted to play on the Switch. Nintendo's work here was perfect. I can't find any flaws in this game - it's guaranteed hours of fun.

Here's the list. I haven't played the newest consoles like the PS5 or Xbox Series, and I don't plan to. I think the console industry has lost its way in recent years—but that's a conversation for another day. Thanks for reading this blog carefully. If this reaches a lot of people, I’d love for them to share their own first gaming memories on the consoles they remember playing.

This blog is being written on Holy Friday. To everyone reading it: Happy Easter!

I'm impressed with the amount of consoles you've played. I've only played on the super nintendo, ps2, xbox 360, xbox one and ps4
