Normal is Just a Setting on the Dryer

You ever have one of those weeks where everything goes sideways, upside down, then somehow backwards at 40 mph? Yeah. That’s been me — again. Between juggling freelance gigs, dodging oddly-timed street closures, and trying not to flake on people I care about (I’m sorry, MJ, I swear I was on the way), I’ve started to realize that “normal” might not actually be in the cards for me. And that’s okay… mostly. Normal is overrated anyway, right? It’s just what people say when they’re trying to pretend their lives don’t include three broken umbrellas, a mystery bruise, and a backpack that somehow smells like hot dogs despite not containing hot dogs. Still, I’m learning to be okay with the chaos. Life isn’t neat. Sometimes you’re early, sometimes you’re late, and sometimes you accidentally leave your only clean shirt at the laundromat because you got distracted by something (or someone) falling off a fire escape. Hypothetically. The important thing is to keep showing up — even if it’s with mismatched socks and a half-eaten granola bar in your pocket. I may not have it all together, but I’ve got heart. And duct tape. And that counts for something.
