Two obligations before I begin:
1. I'm not dying, not even close. I will never deceive anyone here with that.
2. As far as I am aware, my brain is healthy, and the neurologist is there to figure out which nerves are being triggered by outer inflammation to come up with a precise treatment plan.
In early 2024, I started waking up with disorienting feelings. I could not think properly, and my short term memory was significantly affected. I opted away from treatment thinking it would eventually go away with a good diet, unfortunately, it did not, and sought a doctor at the end of 2024, who noticed basic inflammation of my sinuses, and prescribed me an anti-biotic believing it to be an infection.
It was believed to be a prolonged sinus infection. Unfortunately, anti-biotics don't work when the cause is not bacteria.
When that didn't work, I sought an orolarygologist (similar to an ENT), believing it was inflamed sinuses. He also agreed, doing specialized tests which proved inflammation, and prescribed a CT scan in the beginning of 2025 for a whole head scan in areas he couldn't reach.
CT scan was successful, and got a disc with a DICOM file (at least in the United States, you can request a disc for free, but you need to request it directly). Essentially, each side of my head was shot with micro doses of radiation rapidly with 40-120 layers to examine my sinuses in detail. And it was officially confirmed, two major areas were 100% clogged, a diagnosis of chronic sinusitis occurred, and I was prescribed a steroid for half a month (not the ones that give you muscle, but one that turns off the immune system to turn off inflammation). The theory was that if something is not triggering It worked in the beginning, but as I began to taper off (I take lower doses instead of quitting cold turkey, or I'll risk a seizure), the inflammation came back, and I would rather not take steroids for life due to the nasty side effects it gave me.
The next step is a neurologist. The person will not be treating me directly, but looking deeper into what exactly the inflammation is hitting in the brain. Very likely, I will recieve an MRI, or essentially a full scan of my brain and it's activities. I don't know what will happen afterwards, worse case scenario I have surgery to prevent all kinds of inflammation.
What I want to know is the cause of all of this. I do not know the cause of it. Some theories include exposure of long cold temperatures, my allergies, or a dusty room.
I'm in my 20s. Admitingly I'm a bit scared, but equally so I'm glad as it can lead to better treatment. I'm able to live and function despite these symptoms, but I have to make a constant effort to type, read, write, and do complicated functions.
Ultimately, I wish I had advice to give to prevent something like this from happening. This is complicated...
