Okay.. Homestuck. NOW LISTEN. It’s a good story, but it’s gets a very bad rep because of its fanbase. It’s an amazing story that actually changed me to be a better person and people should read it more. I don’t technically know if this counts because it’s a webcomic and not a book but whatever you know??

i have already read homestuck though (or tried to) in my early teens and it has its merits! it's just incredibly long (longer than the bible i hear?) i'm glad it's had a great impact on you and regardless thank you for the suggestion! maybe someone else will be interested in completing homestuck all the way through :)

Maybe a little bit cheesy, but I highly recommend Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. Yes, the book that the 80's movie is based off of. In the movie, it's just thriller but in the original book it's a horror and thriller about these dinosaurs with topics about the ethics of creation. The author did ALL his research on the biology, mathematics, ecology, and overall knowledge for this book to be legit. 10/10 for me.

i didn't even know the jurassic movies were based on a book! i love authors who put their entire heart and time into accurately portraying real subjects into a story. i always wanted to get into jurassic but it seemed like a daunting task with all the films, thank you for the far better alternative :)

Since you showed interest in my music taste earlier, maybe you'd be interested in reading "An American Demon" by Jack Grisham. He helped found TSOL, a band I listen to, and still performs with them today.

Without spoiling it too much, the book is essentially a memoir and covers his younger years, founding the band, and his eventual decision to grow up and take more ownership of his life. Fun read.

ooh, this sounds great! i'll add it to the list (and i'll be sure to listen to the band, too!) thank you :)

Hyo the Hellmaker! It's a japanese YA with some of the coolest world building I've seen in a book, and a really cool mystery attached to it. And the art in it actually paints it really well and is really nice. The characters are cool too, pretty well shaped and with their own interests and desires (forget the MC's brother, ngl I have no idea about him.) I really suggest this read, although it may be hard to understand at first, just keep reading!

The Iliad/The Odyssey by Homer.

Especially The Iliad cos oftentimes when I want to lose my temper cos I feel I've been slighted, I remember what happened when Achilles lost his temper and stopped fighting because of an insult to his honor: many of his countrymen died and the Greeks were nearly pushed back into the Aegean Sea by the Trojans. There's a lesson in there about keeping one's emotions under control.

The Odyssey just cos it's a hell of a good story.

i've read the Iliad and the Odyssey! :) although i'm looking to explore other translations of it since i read Emily Wilson's translation of both. there definitely is something to be said about Achilles' rage and how he refused to fight for a good part of the Iliad. it's amazing how his anger got the best of him, but also even proved that while he sat out for most of the battles, how many lives he was capable of taking. the Odyssey is incredibly lighthearted in comparison! i enjoy reading of Odysseus' many lies when he returns home

on the topic of the Iliad and the Odyssey, ILIAD by Andrew Achilles DiMestico is an incredible listening experience and i definitely recommend it

In that case, given your familiarity with the mythology, I suggest you read David Gemmell's Troy trilogy. It's a unique interpretation and told from the Trojan perspective. There are a good many callbacks to the Epic Fragments and Homer. It's more of an historical fantasy series, but well worth your time in my opinion.
