I've seen a lot of people online talking about straight people and cultural appropriation in queer communities. The debate of heterosexual women and men taking up cultural foundation significant in queer spaces in the form of fashion, gender roles, and signaling has sparked a question of cultural appropriation within queer communities completely separate from straight people viewing gender stereotypes in queer spaces as "aesthetics".
With the context, can I as a bisexual wear a carabiner? Signaling obviously has a historical and cultural significance within queer communities, from hanky code to the pink triangle in political contexts. Signaling and queer political symbols have become historically sacred, representing the foundations of queer spaces. With this in mind, would me, a bisexual wearing a carabiner disrupt any form of cultural sanctity, if so, is there any other way I can express myself without causing offense (when searched on reddit, all I get is cuffed jeans)?
