Haunting Hour Episode Review #1: Red Eye

Red Eye is the seventh episode of the third season.

Hello everybody! I thought it would be fun if I reviewed every Haunting Hour episode on here. I spun a digital wheel, and it landed on Red Eye, which is easily one of my favorite episodes based on concept alone, but it falls incredibly flat in terms of execution.

Georgia (played by Mackenzie Foy, who is in another episode of this show) is a girl who misses her father because he is currently on a world tour. But not all hope is lost! Georgia's dad, Sam, sends her postcards from every location he visits. This time he's in Brussels, Belgium, Georgia takes her newly acquired postcard and pins it on the map bulletin board in her room. As she leaves for dinner, one of the worst-looking creatures in the entire series, the Alp, appears on the postcard.

If all of this show's effects looked like this, I wouldn't be ragging on this because after all, this is live action children's television, but there are many episodes of this show with fairly good effects.

But I digress, this time, Georgia has received a postcard from Frankfurt which she similarly pins on the board. This time, she notices the Alp and suspects that the mailman may have tampered with it. She gets a new postcard from Berlin where the Alp is even closer. The worst nightmare sequence I have ever seen then happens where the Alp flies out of the mailman's bag. Georgia wakes up from this nightmare to see that her father now has red eyes on all the postcards only to discover that it was yet another nightmare. Then the standard children's horror rigamarole of Georgia trying to prove to the adults in her life that the Alp is in the postcards, and them not believing ensues. The ending sees Sam returning home and giving Georgia a souvenir, a small sculpture she suspects to be haunted by the Alp. Georgia destroys the sculpture before it is revealed that Sam was the one possessed by the Alp.

Besides the concept, the only other part I liked was the relationship between Georgia and the mailman.

This episode gets a 2/10.
