Godzilla minus one (watched on the 1st December 2023) -----> 10/10
So this is the first movie in my ticket collection. Of course, I have been in cinema before that, but I didn't keep the tickets, so I won't discuss them here (It would be movies like the Jurassic World ones, Shazam, other Godzilla movies and some other stuff).
So first, you have probably noticed the 10 out of 10 rating I gave the movie right out of the bat. And yes, I started my ticket collection with the movie, which has been my favourite movie up until yesterday. I mean the movie is pretty much perfect, different from all the other Godzilla movies, the most interesting thing about the movie are the characters rather than Godzilla itself.
The movie has its setting in the post ww2 world. The title of the movie itself is a reflection of that, as the minus one comes from the fact that Japan was after the war below even a starting point, so not a zero, but minus one. And knowing that, you probably can guess in what conditions the characters have to face Godzilla in.
Pretty much every single scene, Godzilla is in, is an action and nerve wrecking event. Especially the first scene Godzilla is shown at, when the main character crew has to fight Godzilla in a wooden noodle of a boat. That scene especially goes a far way in showing how helpless everyone is. It does something similar to Spielberg in the Jurassic Park movies, where in scenes where you did expect that the maximum of nerve wrecking was already archived, he did go even further than that and put another thing into the equation. Like for example in Jurassic Park two, the whole trailer seen where the Rex family attacks. That seen in itself is a masterpiece of cinema! So when they explode a sea mine in the mouth of Godzilla after one of the most intense chase scenes I have ever seen, just to see him heal himself right away and continue attacking them, is just mastery of cinema!
And I said that the human characters are even better than Godzilla, but how is it possible that they are if the action sequences are that good? Well, I guess you have to see it for yourself. Please go watch it, you won't do me a favour, but yourself!
The zone of interest (watched on the 2nd march 2024) ----> 8/10
Different from Godzilla minus one is the zone of interest, a very quiet movie which takes its subject very, very serious. It's about a family of Germans during ww2, of which the father just got promoted to the boss of a concentration camp. The movie does not show violence, but through sound effects and what we see from a distance, we can guess what is happening. For example, throughout the movie, you hear many gun shots in the distance and both see smoke coming out of chambers and a constant bussing from the factories. Yet we never directly see anything, it's always just implied. Because we see the plot of the movie through the family of the boss who live at a house directly at the entrance of the concentration camp.
The movie is very subtle with its themes and story. It is so subtle in fact that I quite often didn't understand the anything. I'm probably was just not really ready for the movie. I had something really similar when I watched Shindlers list. Which is why it's an 8/10 instead of something higher. It's too complicated for my inexperienced movie watcher brain.
Godzilla x Kong: The new Empire (watched on the 6th april 2024) ----> 8/10
Coming back to Godzilla, this one is probably the most blockbuster movie on the list thus far. And similar to all the other legendary Godzilla movies, it was just SO MUCH FUN watching the movie! I can't really say that much about the movie, because it did not really focus on the characters, and also didn't have much of a theme throughout it. It just wants to give the viewer a good time, and it really did that job amazingly!! You can't imagine how much fun those movies are if you haven't seen them. I can greatly advise this movie, as well as the rest of the legendary Godzilla movies, if you want to have a fun night!
Alien Romulus (watched on the 7th September 2024) -----> 7/10
This movie was a bit different for me. I'm really not a horror movie guy. And I have never seen any other Alien movie before watching this movie. So I had no knowledge or nostalgia going into the movie. And it did lessen my watching experience. The movie takes place on the spaceship of the first movie (I think) and there are both characters and locations of the first movie. So not knowing anything, it did get quite confusing for me.
However, there are many great horror moments in the movie. Like when the crew had to walk through a hallway of sleeping face huggers and try not to wake up (they obviously failed). And I don't really remember any names in the movie, but the main robot character was really nice, little cutie patootie I tell ya. It's a good movie that has good horror elements and has got a good female main character. I think it's different from other blockbuster movies which are being criticised for having a female main character just to have that character be a man with a woman design. So all in all a good movie with good horror and action scenes!
Deadpool & Wolverine (watched on the 8th september 2024) -----> 6/10
If you paid attention, you have noticed that I watched this movie the day after alien Romulus. And this can easily be explained. Because on that weekend was cinema weekend, so a movie ticket only cost €5 each. So I had to use that opportunity!
Anyway, I didn't really like Deadpool & Wolverine that much. It was very, very funny, similar to the other Deadpool movies. But different to those, Deadpool is not a serious character any more, he is more similar to plastic man rather than the Deadpool in the first movie. Like in the first movie, there were elements of horror in his character. When he turned to Deadpool, the scene was almost like body horror.
And furthermore to that, the movie destroys some other movies. Like the 2018 Logan movie. For example, the girl in that movie different to our expectation didn't have a happy ending but for reason ended up in the different dimension with blade, gambit and others. So I only give it a 6/10
Flight risk (watched on the 12th February 2025) ----> 4/10
I didn't know anything about the movie going into it, I didn't even know it existed, because I watched the movie in the surprise showing, where they didn't tell what movie was about to be shown. So you can guess how I looked when the credits started rolling and the name of the director shown. I know what kind of guy Mel Gibson is. So it was weird when I saw it.
But even without knowing that, the movie was weird. It's about a police officer and an old mafia guy who gets transported to a prison. And because the guy was part of the mafia, his old boss wants him to be taken out. Which is why the pilot of the plane (the guy on the poster) wants to kill the two. And well, that's the whole movie. You expect the flight to end somewhere, like after 30 minutes or so. However, from 10 minutes into the movie to 5 minutes before the movie ends, they never land, and it's just a movie shot in a single location. The big bad of the movie is not even beaten at the end of the movie. The mole in the police force, the police chief, is still in office, and we have not once even seen or heard the mafia boss who send the assassin. So you're left of confused once the movie is over, which is why it only gets a 4/10.
Flow (watched on the 11th march 2025) -----> 10/10
This is a Latvian movie that was animated in blender, which won an Oscar this year. After I saw that, I really, really wanted to see the movie!! And it's just as good as they say! One of the greatest movie out there! The movie takes place in a world where humans have gone extinct, and only the animals are left amongst the ruins of mankind. All the characters in the movie are animals, which do not say a single word throughout the whole movie. But due to the expressions and actions of the animals, you don't need any words to understand anything.
So one day a great flood rushes over the planet, and the main character, a black cat, gets saved by a capybara in a boat. And throughout the movie, they save different animals. And try to survive the flood until it goes away.
And the movie is so good that the animals even have character developments! Like for example the golden retriever. We know the good boy from the very beginning, he was a little gang of dogs with him, which were his friends. But he looses them during the flood. And near the end of the movie, they find his gang again, who joins them. But his old gang are a bunch of assholes who make the lives of the other animals worse, and during the last action scene, after the flood left and the Capybara is stuck in a tree together with the boat they were sailing in. The dog and his gang help out, but similar to when a rabbit ran past at the very beginning, the gang runs after it. However, after thinking, the good buy decides against his gang to save the Capybara!
So all in all one of the best movies of all time, which I can really advise all of you to watch!
Mickey 17 (watched on the 5th march 2025) ----> 7/10
I was probably more excited to watch this movie than even flow. But it did kinda disappoint me. It's a good movie, but I expected something more serious. I mean, the big bad of the movie is a REALLY unsubtle trump knock-off. Now I don't like trump in any way shape or form. But how they did it in this movie is just not fun. You feel stupid whenever that guy played by mark ruffalo is on screen. All in all most characters in the movie are really stupid. But it still had a good story and good lesson to teach. The lesson of the movie is that your live is pressious and worth living, which is a really good lesson. It is not subtle at all, but still good. So a 7/10
Sing Sing (watched on the 14th april 2025) -----> 11/10
Thunderbolds (watched on the 30th April 2025) ------> 9/10
So I went to see the new Thunderbolts movie. And because it was a MCU movie, I really didn't expect anything. However its way different then all the other movies that Marvel released during the last view year.
The movie is much more focused on its characters rather then the action. there are action scenes, however they are rather short. Which deffinetly surprised me. And furthermore, the villain of the movie was really terrifying, well at least for me. Espacially the main thing the villain does. When it first uses, you really feel like the character do not have any chance at all, it feels hopeless. But I don't wanna spoil you guys, but I recommend you guys to give the movie a chance!
I will give it a solid 9/10
Blood & Sinner (watched on the 7th.5.2025) ------> 8.5/10
This movie plays during the 1920's in the southern USA, so you can guess what a main topic of the movie is, racism. So furthermore you can also guess that the movie kind of is a celebration of black culture. And my god does it excellerate at that! There is one scene especially, where the main character playes his guitar, and ghosts from the past and the future, where the camera goes flying through the whole set for 2 straight minutes, while one of the hardest songs ever is hitting the screne. That scene specifically is a 11/10 for me.
Also the movie is a vampire horror movie that sometimes gets pretty gruesome. The vampires feel really powerful and scary, especially when they start playing their own music while the main character gotta watch and listen to them.
One thing the movie really nails is the music, both the main characters and the vampires play some HARD hitting songs that get your hard pumping!
So if you are a fan of horror movies or a music enjoyer, I can't recommend this movie enough!!
The Amateur (watched on the 10th.5.2025) ------> 7/10
I was really excited to watch this movie. I knew it was going to be mid at best, but I'm a sucker for Rami Malek. He is probably my favorite actor out there. So ya already know I had to watch this movie. This movie is one of those revenge movies, where the main character looses his wife and takes revenge opon the people who murdered her. However in this movie, the main character is a nerd who can't fight, so to kill them, he has to be creative. And well, you don't really wanna see the fight scenes the movie has to offer. There is one where two CIA agents fight against each other, and the fight is shot horribly. It changes shots every 2 milliseconds, The camera is closer to the actors faces then the cameraman is to the camera and the actors who fight both are at least over 60. So you can imagine how the fight looked.
The main character Rami Malek playes in the movie is a really nice fella you want to like. He feels like if a normal person would be in his position. Like the first time he kills someone, he has got one of his wifes killers trapped in a glass box and is slowly killing her with something she is allergic to. However because of his empathy and the womans crys for help, he reopens the trap and immidietly gets attacked by the woman. So I think that is how most people would be doing in this situation.
