i’ve been outwardly alternative since i was 12 years old. i’m turning 19 this year so i feel like i have enough cred to have this opinion
i was 12 in 2018/2019 when being alternative wasn’t normalized on tiktok. granted, i was a bit of a wannabe edgelord so i enjoyed the weird looks i got but that’s exactly what it was— it was weird. it was weird to wanna stand out, and i loved it. i’ve always been one for self expression in the way i dressed, thats been a factor since i was a little kid. but i’ve noticed in recent years not only is it a trend, its almost competitive. the morals have kind of been replaced by “style”, and thus its almost become a type for a lot of people.
i HATE. being a type. i always have, i like being sought after for my character and not my appearance. i’ve noticed since being on this site that there’s so many adult men that add younger alt girls and thats their ENTIRE friends list. go check a few profiles, tell me i’m wrong. it makes my skin crawl to see so many young girls get fetishized. its self expression, not your wet dream.
and yes, there’s not much anybody can do so i guess i’m just screaming into the void for this one. but i kinda miss when it was weird to dress in all black.
and if u take anything from this, stop fetishizing alternative culture. and especially teenagers.
