Serial Experiments Lain Episode 11 Reaction

Serial Experiments Lain Episode 11 Reaction

Almost half the episode being taken up by a music video? I didn't expect that. It was awesome, though. A good look back on the series as well. I suppose that sequence represents Lain's memories inside her own mind. The last two minutes made me realize that Alice truly is about the only friend Lain has in this show... With the possible exception of Taro and her older sister.

I thought Lain had been made a prisoner by her benefactors at the end of the last episode. Her creator, as I recall, implied or stated he and Lain were locked into their own version of the Wired together. Now she is wandering the world again. Or is everything we see occurring in her mind?

Lain's creator says she is a software program with a body. But again, the question is why she has a body. There is still no suggestion as to the purpose of her being given a body in the first place. That opens up the question, I suppose, that Lain is being lied to. She is actually an ordinary human girl. However, that would seem to be contradicted by what Lain's 'father' said in episode 10... Unless, of course, that was an illusion too.

One of the best things about this show are Lain's eyes. They are so wide. They are large, dark, and unsettling. They seem either the eyes of a mute, wondering victim or, at times, a frightening menace. The last few minutes of this episode were one of those times where she seemed like she might a force for darkness. It hasn't seemed like that since early on in the series. Now, however, Lain seems to have truly acquired God-like powers. Using her powers to erase events and modify memories seems dangerous... So, again, one must wonder if Lain's seeming benefactors were right about her being a danger -- or the danger, really.

How many Lains there are and where they exist is the big mystery, still, it seems. The big question remaining is whether Lain will kill herself or not... It's depressing even to write that. Poor Lain. The past few episodes appear to have been portraying an attempted seduction. The end goal is Lain imitating the suicide girl, Chisa, who so memorably slew herself... And then contacted Lain via the Wired, which set in motion all the events since... So the seduction has been going on for some time...
