I'm sure we have all heard about reality shifting (or quantum jumping) by now, but if not, let me quickly explain it to you.
Reality shifting is when one moves their consciousness into another version of themselves. Think of the multiverse, there's infinite realities. In one you may be Harry Potter, in another you may be a famous singer. It's been around for a while, but it gained popularity on Tiktok during COVID 2020.
Origins
No one in the world can tell you everything about shifting, because not even those who have "shifted" can entirely comprehend it other than what they know. There is a CIA document talking about the process of shifting, or what it was called, the gateway process. The terms date back to as early as the 1st century, when philosopher Chryisppus spoke about his belief that multiple universes existed. This was then expanded by a mathematician and the university of Cape Town professor George Ellis, who talked about his belief and summarised the concept as "There is a multitude of parallel universes, in which things unfold differently and which we are not usually able to perceive or see due to our limited comic vision." This is the concept of the "multiverse", that shifting derives its entire premise from.
Science? or BS?
Although the practice dates back, the exact origins are unknown. Its roots may come from astral projection, lucid dreaming, and other related practices, but shifting is a phenomenon with a well defined history.
Those who criticise shifting have pointed out the fact that there is very little science to support the practice of shifting. They say that it is simply lucid dreaming, or simply pure imagination.
However, you will find some psychology experts disagreeing with these assumptions. For example, psychologist Grace Warwick labels shifting as a "transluminal experience" which is believed to arise from one's sensitivity to unconscious psychological material.
Similarly, Dr Susan Martinez-Conde notes that the dissociation that reality shifting involves is not something unfamiliar to humans. "Our mental self dissociates all the time, such as when we read a book or watch a movie, leaving behind our physical reality to temporarily inhabit a literary or cinematic one. This is possible thanks to the vivid imagination that humans are equipped with, and this imagination is likely what enables one to 'shift realities'".
Many shifting practices are solely based around meditation practices where the mind seemingly becomes detached from reality, and afferminations to keep the shifter motivated to keep shifting. Both, mediation and manifestations, both have tangible scientifically proven results. However, shifting itself has not undergone any serious scientific inquiry due to its authenticity and ability to prove results. So far, it has been seen as an interesting psychology phenomenon bearing more study.
I believe shifting its self is quite interesting, wither you believe in it or not. I hope this little explination may have given you a little more insight.
