Christianity Topic Rant #4: Cherrypicking Bible Verses

I was gonna rant about how "love thy neighbor" and "treat others how you want to be treated" and "only God can judge me" (I used to think like that a lot) are sometimes used to excuse doing whatever you want without people saying anything about it, but this video is really good at explaining why random verses don't work without the context surrounding them.

I will say that God shows that He loves us through Jesus sacrifice for forgiveness of our sins [things we do that go against God]

1 John 4:7-11

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,

39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Also when Jesus came He didn't just come to be a loving and chill God that doesn't care what anyone does with their lives, He came to bring people to repent and change their ways because He loves us

2 Timothy 3:16

All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness

Matthew 10:34-35

34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

35 For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
    a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.'

 Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
